The spa at the Midland hotel is one of the UK’s leading luxury spas and it is perfectly situated in the heart of Manchester city centre, a prime location for easy transport and many hidden gems.

Whilst not the biggest spa in the country, this little piece of heaven offers so much! From a pool/hot tub to sleeping pods and a delicious afternoon tea, this luxury compact spa has everything to offer.

I recently went along to find out if it is possible to have a business dedicated to health and relaxation in the center of a bustling city and I was not disappointed. The first thing I fell in love with is how easy it was to travel to and find, despite there being no abundance of buildings in Manchester. Usually, whenever I go to a spa it is in the middle of nowhere and the Satnav won’t co-operate so I end up driving around in circles for hours. However, this spa is literally right across the road from Manchester’s central library, meaning you can just hop on a tram to St Peters square and you are there!

The staff were super polite and helpful, showing us around the facilities and giving us free robes, towels, and slippers. Once changed, I went straight to the pool area which is darkly lit- a great touch as it really sets the relaxation mood. The pool is on the smaller side but this is normal in such a prime location and besides, I prefer to float around talking more than swim on a spa day anyway.

The hot tub is right next to this and it is so nice and warm it almost feels like you are being hugged in the best way possible. I then checked out the sauna and steam room. The sauna featured a Himalayan salt wall so it didn’t have that usual wood smell, which I really appreciated. Then we went into the steam room which is infused with salt. This was nice, but personally, I can’t stay long in steam rooms as I find it hard to breathe.

Then to cool down I went in their lifestyle shower, which has three different shower experiences; Caribbean storm, Arctic rain and Cool mist. These are all different temperatures so you can cool down or warm up depending on what you are looking for.

We had a delicious afternoon tea before our treatments which had a great range of different sandwiches and cakes served with any hot drink of your choice for free. Then we headed to the relaxation room just before our massages, which was super fun as there were huge sleeping pods hanging from the ceiling that you could get into and slowly swing asleep in. They also had two private sofa rooms and beds so you could even take a nap if you felt like it.

I chose to go for the Serene sleep treatment which included a personalised consultation, hot stone massage, facial massage with a treatment mask and a scalp massage. I am extremely ticklish so I was worried that I would ruin the massage because of this, but my masseuse adjusted her pressure accordingly so I wouldn’t giggle or tense up and it felt like the quickest 55 minutes of my life (probably because I was half falling asleep).

The hot stones during the facial massage was my favourite part about this treatment as the warming sensation really put me at ease. But I also loved that it was multiple tasters of different treatments all rolled into one. So I would definitely recommend this treatment if you are after a bit of everything.

Overall, I think this spa is a great location to go to, especially if like me you are a city dweller and don’t let yourself be cleansed of that city pollution often enough, or even if you are just a visitor looking for something relaxing to do for a day. To check out the full list of treatments
