The festival with a difference – Bluedot returned to the Cheshire countryside, the festival where Music, Science, Arts and Culture collide

Based in the grounds of a deep space satellite observatory – Bluedot is an award-winning festival where guests are invited to explore the worlds of music, science, arts and culture. And, experience how all four go hand-in-hand.

Taking place underneath the Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank – the festival is jam packed full of science experiments, expert talks by industry leaders in the science and space industry (they even live streamed with an Astronaut) – and not to mention the killer music line-up.

The all-star lineup included Gary Numan, The Flaming Lips, and The Chemical Brothers headlining at this years main stage throughout the weekend.

The Flaming Lips put on an unforgettable performance – there use of set design and props created an extraordinary atmosphere, and the crowds love the American group as they performed some of their biggest hit tracks.

And when Wayne Coyne surfed the crowds in a GIANT zorb ball, festival-goers were in frenzy to get a piece of the action as the eccentric singer floated over the crowds.

The festival is a family-friendly affair, and was the first time I’ve ever experienced a festival with so many families and young people attending – which is pretty awesome if you ask me as there were tons of activities to take part in throughout the weekend for people of all ages.

A HUGE highlight that was talked about throughout the weekend was the Blue Planet Live Orchestra performance on the Thursday – unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend the festival on the Thursday but heard that the performance was breath-taking.

One festival-goes described it as: “A honest moment of contemplating and love for the planet, and for who we share it with”.

Keeping the party going all weekend long was Russian Standard Vodka – their mobile bar seemed massively popular over the course of the weekend with delicious cocktails and their own personal DJ/mini tent, raising the standards of British festivals.

And – the guys at Russian Standard will be popping up at some other UK festivals throughout the year.

We recommend the Espresso Martini, perfect for festivals as you can enjoy an alcoholic beverage while also getting your morning Espresso. Goals!

As light installations were projected onto open woodland free for guests to explore – the path was littered with interactive art work and science experiments that attendee’s were welcomed to experience. It has to be said, this festival is some what special.

Walking around an open woodland under the night sky, beer in hand, exploring weird and wonderful audio/visual installations. A once in a life time experience that combines the craziness of other UK festivals with the fun and intrigue of science and culture.
