Breakout Manchester: Can You Escape?

Holly Harris | 24th February 2018

The concept of escape rooms is taking off all around the world.

Budapest, Hungary, was the first city in Europe to create a Live Escape Game.

Since then, word got around and the craze spread…all the way to Manchester city centre.

There is not too much to give away, as the concept is run on secrets however, we can give you a taste of what a Breakout Manchester visit would entail.

FIRST

Get together a team of up to five players; the more the merrier.

Go with friends, family, colleagues, students, travelers or whoever else you have in mind.

Whether you are doing it for fun or for a corporate team building experience, Breakout is a great experience and one a little out of the ordinary.

Choose from 14 games, all with a different theme and with various difficulty levels (we did Vacancy and would definitely recommend).

Check out the choice of rooms here.

SECOND

You are given a briefing and told the setting of your chosen room – this helps to immerse yourself into the games theme and story.

After being led to the room, the door shuts behind you and 60:00:00 appears on the screen and begins counting down…you have 60 minutes to escape.

THIRD

As 60 minutes is counting down on the screen, expect a frenzy to begin.

There are letters and numbers on the walls, books dotted around, locks and safes; no one knows where to begin and you must watch out for red herrings.

As you complete the game, a member of staff is watching and listening to know when to provide clues.

Unless you are flying through the room, you do tend to get clues that pop up on the countdown screen however, they only do so if you appear to be struggling; they wont just give them out every time you look at the camera and plead for a clue!

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

Breakout Manchester compare the escape rooms as being in a mixture of the following TV shows: The Crystal Maze, The Cube (TV show ITV), Cube (film series), Saw series, Prison Break, Fort Boyard, The Mole, The Amazing Race, The Great Escape and Knightmare.

If immersing yourself into essentially a real life game show sounds like your idea of fun, then go on down, grab a team and show them a unique day out.

Here are a few pointers:

– There are not physical aspects, its all mental.

– Around 50% of people escape (common sense goes a lot further than intelligence).

– You are completely safe, there is no fear aspect in any of the rooms.

– Although you are ‘locked’ in the room, you can leave at any time if you wish.

– It is advised that only children from 10 upwards play due to the complexity of the puzzles. If the members of the party are under 16 then they must be accompanied by someone 18 or over.
