Can these makeup products finally put an end to stubborn skin?

If you’re like me, then unfortunately you’ve been cursed with bad skin; red, sensitive and just all-round annoying! A slight drop in the temperature (or even a slight rise, for that matter) and your face bursts into a raging, red, sweaty mess. I have tried product after product of powders, lotions, you name it – but all to no avail, I just can’t seem to cover my redness. I might have just found the answer to all our prayers. I’ve tested KALME Chameleon Concealer and Oxygenetix’s Oxygenating Foundation to see if I can finally have the perfect skin I’ve always wanted.

The Chameleon Concealer

The Oxygenating Foundation

The Chameleon Concealer from KALME claims to be a new tone-matching concealer made especially for red and sensitive skin, which can even be used to cover rosacea. It’s new tone-matching technology claims to change colour to match your skin tone exactly. Now although Oxygenetix’s foundation doesn’t specifically claim to be for red skin, it does claim to be the world’s most breathable foundation – designed to help boost the healthiness of your skin, as well as giving full coverage for the whole day. According to Oxgenetix, it doesn’t clog pores and doesn’t smudge due to perspiration, it’s water-resistant, and it is so good for your skin that you can sleep in it without aggravating your skin. The foundation comes in 14 shades; seven yellow base colours and seven blue base colours. With the Chameleon Concealer covering the redness, and Oxgenetix’s foundation to keep everything healthy and held into place, could this be the end of sensitive skin?

The Chameleon Concealer in action

The doubt started as soon as I saw the concealer; what looked like a green-tinted moisturiser popped out of the pump and onto my hand. I started to gently rub the concealer into my hand with my finger as stated on the instructions and to my amazement the green had changed into a skin colour – it was magical! After my nerves had settled I tried it on my face, rubbing it where I was prone to redness; my nose, cheeks and chin.

Before and after applying the Chameleon Concealer

Unfortunately for me, I have red skin, but I am also quite pale, so if you are also pale then you might want to sit down. The new ‘tone-matching technology’ was quite a let-down. My face went from being red and pale to an orange shade with pink cheeks. Although it did calm my redness down, it didn’t quite get rid of it. It felt and looked more like a tinted moisturiser than a concealer and at £19.95 per tub, an expensive one!

Banishing any doubt I had, I then tried to apply the Oxygenating Foundation (in shade Ivory) and instantly regretted the decision. My first issue with this product was the sheer difficulty in trying to get it out of the pump; I must have been sat pumping and shaking it for 10 minutes before anything came out! Now as I said I am quite pale so I got the Ivory shade, as I usually get Porcelain or Ivory shades anyway, but as soon as I pumped out the foundation I knew it was going to be too dark for me. I applied the foundation onto my face and I transformed into an orange, it was definitely not the Ivory colour I was looking for; however, my redness had completely gone. Although I was now a completely different shade, my skin felt fantastic! The foundation dried and created a matte look with a delicate feel that I have never felt before, it was just such a shame I looked so orange.

The foundation was still orange

I decided to make the most of a bad situation and carried on applying the rest of my makeup, hoping that it wouldn’t look so bad if I had some highlighter and some lippy on. As you can see from the picture, it still looked pretty orange even after applying a white powder foundation. If it wasn’t for how amazing my skin felt I would have taken it off then and there, but I was intrigued to see how well it held up during the day. The whole day my makeup stayed firmly in place, even in the rain! I can’t stress enough how well this foundation stays and just how great it makes your skin feel – I’ve been stroking my face all day.

The battle of my redness still continues, as the Chameleon Concealer just didn’t work as well as I had wanted it to, but the battle of the stubborn skin may be over thanks to Oxgenetix’s foundation; don’t get me wrong, they still need to make a lot more shades as they don’t quite match (my tango’d face can vouch for that) and the price is extortionate for only a 15ml bottle, but as someone who has skin so sensitive that even grass will set me off into a rash, my skin has never felt so healthy!
