Coronation Street stars Catherine Tyldesley, Katie McGlynn and Tisha Merry will be swapping the world famous cobbles of Weatherfield, for an arduous 50km trek through the Brecon Beacons, to raise money for charity this summer.

The trio who play Eva Price, Sinead Tinker and Steph Britton, are taking part in TrekFest on June 4th 2016.

TrekFest is the ultimate endurance challenge, with thousands of people set to take part.

Taking part alongside friends and family as part of ‘#TeamVital’, the ladies have chosen to raise funds forThe Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity based in Manchester, and Parkinson’s UK.

Actress Catherine Tyldesley said: “I’m excited and honoured to be trekking over the Brecon Beacons in aid of these two charities. More research is desperately needed into finding out what causes Parkinson’s. I truly believe we are only a matter of years away from finding breakthrough treatments for this cruel condition.

I’m passionate about completing TrekFest. Our team will train hard to make a respectable time, and raise much needed funds for both charities. We hope to do both of these causes proud, and I’m looking forward to this amazing adventure with a great bunch of friends.”

Actress Katie Mcglynn said: “I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in to the challenge. We will be going on some training treks in the spring to wear in our hiking boots and get used to climbing hills. I have been told this certainly isn’t going to be a walk in the park!

But, there’s a great bunch of us who will motivate each other and I’m sure we will have plenty of belly laughs (and blisters) along the way, while raising money for The Josh Wilson Brain Tumour Charity and Parkinsons UK.”

Actress Tisha Merry said: I am very excited for TrekFest next year. I will certainly be challenging myself, as I have never done anything like this before and am prepared to push my body to the limit. We decided on two amazing charities, one local and one national, so I feel honoured to be taking part with Team Vital to support these worthy causes. They will be in my thoughts along the journey! Bring it on!”

The Brecon Beacons offer a beautiful setting for TrekFest, which is organised by Global Adventure Challenges, and provide an extreme physical workout and a psychologically taxing challenge. Participants will cross the highest peaks in the Beacons and South Wales including Pen Y Fan (886m), Corn Du (873m), Cribyn (795m) and Fan Y Big (719m).

Mum of Joshua Wilson aka SuperJosh and co-founder of The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity, Dawn Fidler said: “When I heard that Catherine, Katie and Tisha had chosen us as their local charity I was thrilled. What they are doing to raise funds is amazing and will be a huge boost to allow us to continue giving direct support to children with brain tumours and post surgery disabilities across Greater Manchester. The whole of the SuperJosh family is 100% behind them and we hope they have a lot of fun along the way!”

Paul Jackson-Clark, Director of Fundraising at Parkinson’s UK, said: “We are so excited to hear that Parkinson’s UK is going to be involved with this amazing challenge. Our Welsh colleagues in particular are jumping up and down in anticipation, and it will be fantastic to be able to highlight the great work that we do across the UK. We can’t thank‘#TeamVital’enough for their support”.

Managing Director and co-founder of Global Adventure Challenges, Peter Robinson, said: “We are delighted that Catherine, Katie and Tisha have chosen to take part in TrekFest. With the numbers growing year on year is has now become one of our leading events. Although 50km is a pretty tough challenge that will test the girls’ endurance to the full, it is highly achievable with the right training.”
