IMG_4757 Corrie stars, Katie McGlynnTisha Merry and Catherine Tyldesley along with VIVA Ems, Laura Graham who is the MD at Vital Management and Dawn Fidler who is the founder of Super Josh Charity and Mother of Josh will be taking on a mammoth challenge this summer, as they trek up the Brecon Beacons mountain range in Wales to raise money for charity.

Actress Lucy-Jo Hudson joined the girls during their fitness session at the David Lloyd in Cheadle, trainers Dan and Josh put the girls through their paces with a combination of les mills grit and high intensity interval training to accelerate fat burn and increase metabolism. Dan went on to say, ‘We focused on a little bit of muscle definition, got the girls fighting fit with a bit of boxing and then finished off with a tug of war competition.’

VIVA spoke to Katie and Tisha about swapping the cobbles for the mountains.

VIVA: How did you find the session today?

Tisha: It was really good! Really hard… not what I expected. The guys were amazing, they really pushed us.

VIVA: What were your favourite bits?

Katie: When Laura (Graham) fell over on the tug of war.

VIVA: You all did a practice trek a few weeks ago. How did it go?

Katie: We just kept our spirits up throughout the day and it was actually really nice. Of course, some bits were harder than other, like going uphill! You’ve got to eat lots of snacks to keep your energy up.

Tisha: You lose track of time and we all get on so well, it’s like a bonding session.

VIVA: What has your daily routine been in preparation for the trek?

Tisha: Three or four times a week, I’ll do an at home work out. I’ll use little weights, do press ups, squats and HIIT training. A lot of the practice treks we’ve been doing have involved climbing and it’s similar to lunging, but uphill so I’ve been trying to build up my strength along with a bit of cardio.

Katie: I’ve been weight training three or four times a week at UP fitness and then doing cardio at David Lloyd. I used to live by a lake, so I would go on walks around there.

VIVA: The question of the day is have you guys mastered the art of the Shewee’s that were sent out to you?

Katie & Tisha: I haven’t tried it out yet! Cath (Tyldesley) is a pro at it!

The stars will be taking part in TrekFest as part of Team Vital on 4th June, alongside fellow actress Cath Tyldesley, head trainer at Ultimate Performance Matt Warner for The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity and Parkinson’s UK.
