When? 24th November

Where? Cottonopolis, NQ

On Thursday 24th November Cottonopolis is celebrating its first birthday in style, with complimentary drinks and canapés for all with Manchester institution, festival staple and beat ninja, Mr. Scruff, providing an inevitably awesome soundtrack.

The last 12 months have been a helluva journey for Cottonopolis and this party is a huge thank you to one and all. With Mr. Scruff hitting the decks and top notch food and drinks flying about, it promises to be a night to remember.

Since his first vinyl excursion Mr. Scruff has recorded for over 25 labels including Warp, Sirkus, Disorient, Blood & Fire, Cup Of Tea and, of course, Ninja Tune. He has remixed Nightmares On Wax and Bim Sherman and refused to remix Nigel Kennedy. He’s worked with Mark Rae and Grand Central. He has DJed all over the shop, turning down more gigs than he takes on. If they won’t let him have a long spot, he doesn’t bother….and this gig is no different.

This tops off a year of huge parties at Cottonopolis; bank holidays have been filled with absolutely bouncing all-dayers. Purple Reign; an all day dedication to disco played host to some of Manchester’s finest selectors including DJ Paulette, while HipHopolis – Bank Holiday Hustlin’ was a hip-hop marathon featuring everything from breakbeat to boom bap, new jack to jazz rap and everything that falls under the hip-hop umbrella.

Over the past year, Cottonopolis has become firm Manchester favourite with a relaxed, friendly vibe; a reputation that put it right in the running for the Food and Drink Festival’s Bar of the Year 2016.

In October, the expert Cottonopolis team decided it was time to mix up its offer and introduce a progression on its hugely celebrated cocktail menu. The launch of the 2ndedition coincided with the introduction of the venue’s very own premium Cottonopolis Gin which, after months of brainstorming sessions, over numerous G&Ts, was developed with the expert distillers at Portobello Road and contains distinctive botanicals such as pink peppercorn, yuzu and Japanese orange.

Cottonopolis’ food menu stands out from the Northern Quarter crowd, serving fresh, healthy, Japanese inspired small plates and lunchtime Bento boxes from a menu developed by Head Chef, Joe Grant. Every dish is made from top class produce, perfectly prepared and served with maximum style, minimum fuss.

Owners Nick and Hayley Muir commented “This is a huge celebration and thank you to all of our customers who have made Cottonopolis what it is. The last 12 months have been massive for us and we wanted to put on a first birthday party to match – it’s going to be one to remember!”

The birthday business will be kicking off from 8pm and will continue ‘til late.
