Too Many Critics, Action Against Hunger, Fazenda SpinningfieldsVIVA was delighted to help turn the tables on food critics who competed against one another at the fabulous Fazenda restaurant to raise cash for Action Against Hunger.

In all, £19,000 was raised for the worthy cause as the Financial Times’s Bill Knott, MEN’s Emily Heward, ManCon’s Mark Garner and Manchester Wire’s Ruth Allan, had to create their own meat marinade and serve it up as a traditional Brazilian Passador.

It was the women who came out top, with Ruth claiming the number one spot with her spicy chicken while Emily was a close second with gorgeous sticky pork-belly.

Caroline Dyer from Action Against Hunger said: “Last night was an absolute testament to the generosity of the North. Thank you to all those that came and helped us raise vital funds for our projects all around the world.

“Action Against Hunger works with a clear mission – to end child hunger, and thanks to events like Too Many Critics and all the support we receive from the Northern food and drinks industry across the year we are one step closer to achieving that.”

Now in its third year, Tomas Maunier, Fazenda’s sales and marketing director, told Viva:

“We are so glad we were able to host this year’s Too Many Critics. It is a fantastic event which brings the city’s food and restaurant community together for an incredible cause.

“My South American roots have made me very aware of how lucky we are in England, but also how generous we can be when it comes to helping others. We’re very proud to team up with Action Against Hunger and be able to fund life-saving projects.”

Ruth’s dish, called the Sobrecoxa De Franco (Ethiopian doro wot chicken thighs), will be served for the next two weeks in the restaurant and we can vouch for its deliciousness.
