Danny Wright’s first tour as a solo artist kicks off in Salford

Danny Wright has been on the music scene for some time now, but after the success of his previous bands ( DissolvedIn and We Are Lost Boys) he has started a new and exciting pop-rock project, under his name.

After releasing an E.P called T.R.U.S.T (available on Spotify) and his latest single ‘I Didn’t Like You (And I Really Mean It) he has just begun his first solo tour, which kicked off at Salford’s Eagle Inn, last night.

Check out the latest single here:

In total there was four support acts before Danny, which is unusual, but they all played shorter sets.

That’s because most of them are just starting out, which explains why the supports were mainly sub-par; everyone has to start somewhere though.

An acoustic guitar playing duo, under the name End In Sight, were up first.

They failed to make much impact on the audience, who were chatting and scrolling through their phones for most of their set.

Between songs they were fairly awkward too and seemed to be making up the setlist as they went along.

However, the blue haired vocalist did have an appealing tone; similar to that of R.E.M’s vocalist.

They have an E.P called The Graduation out and they performed the title track well.

It would help them in the future to get more comfy on stage and perhaps rehearse more, so they’re slicker, which should make them a little less boring to watch.

Then came a soloist; Brandon Lee from All The Way ( a currently incomplete band).

As he said himself, he sang along to :”cringey as f**ck synth-pop”.

With him standing on stage singing to a backing track, moments away from starting a fist fight with his microphone stand; coming across as mediocre karaoke.

Technical malfunctions didn’t help this either, as one song literally just cut out in the middle, which just comes across as unprofessional.

He was mildly humorous though, in his banter with hecklers, at the front of the crowd.

His set was a mix of original songs and covers; including Busted’s Year 3000.

He ended his set with a mic drop, which is only really effective if you’re Kanye West.

All the way from New York City was RYNO, who brightened up the room more and actually got some positive interaction from the crowd.

He played an original called ‘Glory’, which recently celebrated one million streams on Spotify.

Check it out here:

Considering RYNO is literally a guy behind a desk of tech equipment, he had far more stage presence than his predecessors.

He’s clearly had more experience working a crowd.

He used a voice-changing megaphone and floor drum to add little details to his set to make it stand out more.

This is his second show in Manchester recently too.

A couple of weeks ago he supported Aston Merrygold from JLS, so he’s definitely making a name for himself on this side of the Atlantic.

He would however, probably be better suited to a club atmosphere; rather than a half filled pub of teenage girls.

The Divide were next to play and were the first full band too.

Despite having a fair few tracks available, they played mostly cover songs from the likes of :Bowling For Soup, You Me At Six and Fall Out Boy.

They can be forgiven for this though, as their new vocalist has literally only been with them for two weeks.

Taking the fact he only learnt their original track ‘Mr Know It All’ the night before the gig; he did a cracking job.

They were energetic and genuinely looked like they were having fun up there.

Barring the vocals sounding a bit muffled in places they were pretty decent.

It just would have been nice to hear them play more of their own songs, as they ran out of time to finish the set they prepared.

But, not before the drummer put down a solo to finish on.

As the gaggle of teenage girls wearing Danny’s merchandise drew closer to the stage, it was clear who was next- Danny Wright.

He opened with ‘Staying In’.

Check out the lyric video below:

They’re a classic example of an up-beat pop-rock band.

They’ve also nailed the synchronised pop-punk bounce too.

The lighting wasn’t particularly exciting; very neutral, with the odd colour change.

Danny got a better response from the audience, compared to the supports, but it was still very tame in the cramped venue.

After saying “you guys are so sexy” he received ear-drum smashing squeals.

His next release is going to be ‘Nerves’.

It’s got the ferociousness of the early noughties pop-punk bands and a vein popping vocal.

An acoustic song called ‘Somebody Else’ seemed to strike a nerve with Danny.

It felt authentic and sincere.

It was introduced as being about  “bul***t stuff” that happened to him a while ago.

When he felt like “a useless piece of s**t”.

He wanted everyone to know that it’s: “okay not to be okay and to find something they love”.

It’s a well know fact that Danny’s a big Blink 182 fan, so he took his “fangirl moment” to cover a medley of their greatest hits.

Overall it was a sturdy and vibrant set; deserving of more than the occasional clap and shriek.

He came across as being grateful for his fans and grabbed a bunch of selfies with them before and after the show.
