Upright Desk

Apparently, office workers spend as much as 5 years of their working lives sat behind a desk.

It’s easy to figure out that’s a lot of time being inactive.  With most day offices workers sedentary and seated at their desks for up to nine hours or more, every day, the need to break to mould and keep fit and focused is very important.

Simply heading to the gym once a day won’t reverse the negative side effects that sitting for so many hours at work has on our health.

The biggest challenge we face in order to keep fit and active is to reduce the amount of sitting in the day.

Most offices favour rigid desks, but by adopting a standing position while working increases body movement throughout the day, potentially burning off up to 50 additional calories per hour. That’s around 200 per day and an amazing 1,000 per week.

Standing desks are now more popular in the UK with it becoming trendy to stand and work. In Denmark for instance it is made mandatory for employers to offer their staff standing desks.

If you sit excessively it is clearly hard to keep fit, consider using a standing desk like The Varidesk Soho to help you remain active.

And if you feel you’re stuck in a rut, here three tips on how to refresh your office routine:

  • Make it Green, a study found that having household plants around the office increased your mood whike working and can increase productivity by as much as 15%.
  • Use a standing desk, not only do they make the office trendy, they can burn up to 52,000 calories per year for each user, whilst a recent study found that standing at a desk increases productivity by a staggering 46%.
