BFI_LOVE_Reel_Final_04Alison Steadman, Stephen Graham And Ian Hart Share Their Love Letters To Cinema

Film Hub North West Central, part of the BFI Film Audience Network, and led by HOME in Manchester, is celebrating the BFI LOVE season in partnership with Plusnet, throughout November and December by inviting its region’s actors, directors and cinema goers to write their LOVE letter to cinema.

Featuring quotes from Alison Steadman (Life is Sweet, Gavin and Stacey), Stephen Graham (This is England, Snatch) and Ian Hart (Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone), a set of bespoke illustrated postcards has  been created to urge others to delve into the magic of cinema and explore what makes it so beloved by so many.

The postcards will be available at the BFI LOVE Season events and screenings held by Film Hub NWC projects across the region, including HOME Manchester, Derby Quad, Grimmfest Manchester, Metal Liverpool, KinoKulture Shropshire and They Eat Culture.

Cinema-goers are encouraged to follow in the footsteps of some of the North West’s leading lights and write their own LOVE letter to film on the back of the cards, and share their love by pinning their messages up at the venues and sharing their letters on Twitter using #BFILove.

Alison Steadman- Liverpool:

“Cinema is such an important thing in my life. It can be a comfort, an education, an entertainment… it always takes me on a new journey.”

Stephen Graham- Kirkby:

“Cinema to me is a place of dreams, to learn about the world, to run with your imagination – from Disney’s ‘Fantasia’ to Ken Loach’s ‘Kes’, we have the opportunity to see other people’s passions come alive in front of our eyes.”

Ian Hart- Knotty Ash:

“Cinema, for me, is a place of comfort alone in the dark with a chance to escape from whatever, or whoever for a few hours and return to childhood. Writers, directors, storytellers of the modern age. A gift to all mankind forever.”

BFI LOVE in partnership with Plusnet, is a major new project that will re-kindle audiences passions for film and television’s most enduring love stories. Truly an affair to remember, the UK-wide season includes over 1,000 screenings at hundreds of cinemas, special one-off events, new and rare releases on DVD and BFI Player,  education events and innovative interactive content across online and social media.

Film Hub NWC is a network of organisations that share a commitment to building a wider, more diverse UK cinema audience. The area includes Cheshire, Derbyshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside, Shropshire and Staffordshire.
