Five scary movies that will get you in the Halloween spirit

Autumn is here which means the next event on the calendar is indeed Halloween.

 

Halloween is loved by people of all ages, with younger people enjoying the traditional activity of trick or treating, while the older generation maybe enjoying the holidays and family gatherings with plenty of food and drink.

 

It started off as an American holiday, but nowadays, the holiday is celebrated world over. One of the popular things to do over Halloween is watch scary films helping us to get into that Halloween party spirit too!

 

Here’s our five favourite films with a Halloween theme:

 

 

Hocus Pocus

Many of us reading this would have watched this film in their younger days, and what a great film it is. It was released during the 90s where Hollywood seemed to be on fire in regard to Halloween themed movies. The story sees a group of teenagers head to an abandoned house to explore it, and as you’d expect, something goes wrong. One of the teenagers manages to free a coven of witches, so it’s up to the teenagers to prevent them from becoming immortal.

 

Halloween

Is there a better way to get into the Halloween mood than by watching the film Halloween? The film which was released in 1978 and was such a hit with audiences that a slot game was created for devoted fans. The film is a total scare fest as it tells the story of a murder which occurred on Halloween night back in ’63. A six-year-old murdered his 17 year old sister and is jailed for 15 years, but he escapes in ’78 and heads back to his hometown in Illinois looking for more victims. It’s another movie which is sure to help viewers find their Halloween spirit.

 

Halloweentown

Halloweentown is another hit Halloween themed film which was produced in the 90s. It sees Marnie, a girl coming up to her 13th birthday, discover that she is in fact a witch. However, that isn’t the only thing that Marnie discovers as she also finds out that her family are involved in a battle against the evil creatures who are attempting to take over the world. In a race against time, Marnie, along with others, must collect the ingredients to bring to life a special sword to halt the evil in its tracks.

 

Edward Scissorhands

Edward Scissorhands is one of those films that most people have seen, with it being an all time classic in many respects. Released in 1990 starring Johnny Depp, the film sees a scientist create an animated human, but the scientist unfortunately dies without Edward, his creation, being complete. Edward is left with a sort of freakish appearance, with hands made from scissors, and this makes him an outcast. He’s a kind soul, with great abilities as an artist, but his hands hold him back somewhat.

 

A Nightmare on Elm Street

A Nightmare on Elm Street is another classic film that has gained legendary status over the years. While there have been a couple of versions of the movie made, the original is by far the best as it’s a classic slasher fil at its very best. Freddy Krueger, who’s a disfigured monster, preys on teenagers as they sleep by entering their dreams, which then kills them. This leads to Nancy and her boyfriend, played by Johnny Depp, to try and unravel the puzzle of what’s going on before it’s too late.
