As Wimbledon fever grips the nation ahead of Andy Murray’s highly anticipated semi final, it seems that it has even captured the attention of Sea Life Manchester’s resident sea creatures who’ve gone tennis mad!

Ernie the Turtle, Sea Life Manchester’s giant sea turtle, has really come out of his shell during this year’s tournament and is celebrating Murray’s latest win in true style by dining on Wimbledon’s classic dessert at meal times.

Ernie’s usual cucumber and cabbage diet is still on the menu this week, however he’s also now resurfacing at meal times to be treated to a pot of refreshing, handpicked English strawberries – the juicier, the better.

Not just fishy business, members of staff are even getting in on the action and relaxing after a long shift by taking the plunge into the Ocean Tank to have a game of tennis. The usual Wimbledon weather fears are not a concern for the divers, however just trying to swing the racket underwater is a challenge and an ace is unheard of in those depths!

Lucy Handel, Curator at Sea Life Manchester said: “Wimbledon is one of the biggest highlights on the English sporting calendar and everyone at Sea Life Manchester seems to think that there’s no reason why they can’t get in on the action.”
