Gary Neville reveals his secret addiction at the launch of Sync Manchester

Debbie Manley | 10th March 2018

Sky football pundit Gary Neville revealed all at the launch party for Sync in Barton Arcade, Deansgate, Manchester.

Sync, which opens to the general public on Monday 12 March, is the new home of all things Apple – a purpose built space for people and businesses to shop, learn, share, create and collaborate.

The launch party started with Mr Wilson’s Second Liners, a live brass band playing rave tunes, disco and even Fools Gold by the Stone Roses (see video below).

The action then moved in to the store, where Gary entertained with a question and answer session – talking about his love of new technology, what he is addicted to and his commitment to investing in local businesses and education after making the decision to leave Manchester United, despite being offered a coaching job there.

He also explained how he wants to be more that just an ex Manchester United player – with his new career in business, including investing in a digital tech business.

Sport, digital, music

“I’m immersed in this sector, from the point of view of investment and commitment, the passion. I feel as though the sector will become bigger and bigger, and Manchester will become more dependent on sport, digital, music.”

He added: “I have only ever invested in businesses in Manchester. that will maybe change in the next few years. I am passionate about this city. I am passionate about Manchester, Salford, it is where I grew up.

“I am ultimately trying to grow my business. I am only five years out of football and trying to establish myself – and trying to lose the ‘ex Manchester United’ tag is not easy. But on the other hand I also feel as though to be established in your local area where you know everybody, you know the local talent, you know local places and you know the people, which I think is really important for me. Also to try and create as much employment… to give back.

“It’s where I am, where I live. I want to be here. For me this city is incredible. The change in the last 25 years has been just out of this world when you think about what was here in this surrounding area, it has transformed completely. There is so much more to do and to achieve, and I want to be part of that.

“I can never see myself moving away from Manchester. I will always be based here, I will always invest here, because for me it is my city. It is where I want to be and it has been sop good to me as well.”

Offering Apple products, along with other leading tech brands, Sync’s friendly team of knowledgeable experts have over 25 years of experience and provide a range of services, regular training and seminars,  plus walk-in and pre-booked repairs.

There is also a well-equipped meeting room and a cosy snug, powered by GBM Digital Technologies, the largest Apple Service Provider in the North, which is also based in Manchester.

In the last two years, GBM have been the largest Apple Authorised Reseller based on revenue and are also in the Top 20 of the Tech Track Top 100 Fastest Growing Companies in the UK.

Chris Costello, director of GBM said: “As GBM, we have been working with small businesses, multinationals, schools and creatives to provide great Apple solutions and services for over 25 years. We felt it was time to build on our foundations to bring our technology expertise to consumers, giving them access to the latest technology, underpinned by experts who genuinely know their stuff.

“Sync isn’t just another tech shop. It’s where technology meets collaboration. We work with customers to help them use tech to make their personal and professional lives better, as well as providing them with a space to work, network and learn.

“Whether you’re looking for advice about the latest iPad or want to upgrade your MacBook, our friendly team are there to help. We also offer a range of support services, including data recovery, out of warranty services and repairs, while-you-wait upgrades and Mac recycling.”

Food was provided for the launch party by neighbouring Catalonian restaurant and bar Lunya and the after party was at Living Room, always a favourite with the “Class of 92″, which also featured Gary’s brother Phil Neville, David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt, who all started their careers at Manchester United and went on to win everything in English football including the treble of premiere league, FA Cup and European Cup.
