‘Animals in Destress’ is a local animal rescue

2-year-old Oscar

centre based in Irlam and has been running for 50 years. They take in suffering, sick and injured animals from all over Greater Manchester. Providing the animals with whatever care they need, from trips to the vet to just giving them some love and affection. The charity has both a 24-hour emergency service and a drop in centre for people to bring animals in which they feel they can’t care for any longer.

The rescue centre has more animals under their care than ever, with the biggest number of discarded animals being around Christmas, people abandon their animals for reasons such as moving to a new house!

One of the latest additions to the charity is two-year-old Oscar, Jannette Ramsden, the company director says: “Oscar was left outside of our sanctuary tied to a lamppost, he had an ear infection in both ears and a blister on his paw.

As Oscar is a big dog and needs big open space to roam around in and as a puppy, all he wants to do is play. Unfortunately, we don’t have those facilities here meaning he will be living in a small pen and only get the advantages of a big open space when going on walks. We really do want to find him a devoted family!”

Alongside Oscar, they also have many cats, rabbits, ferrets and hedgehogs. With rising vet’s fees, food, disinfectants, mortgage, insurance and transport costs the charity is stretched to its limit. To get involved this Christmas there are many things you can do from volunteering at the sanctuary, fundraising and as well as attending their open days. The Christmas fair down at the sanctuary is on the 30th of November where you can get involved with raffles and tombolas to raise money for the charity.
