The deadline for the Manchester Christmas shoebox appeal for the homeless is TOMORROW, the 26th November! For anyone who’s not up to speed with the appeal, here’s some quick details on what you need to know:

1. This shoe box appeal is different to the one run by Samaritan’s Purse, instead it’s organised by the Manchester Street Angels who you may know from their work at night helping those ‘particularly intoxicated’ individuals after a night out. But they’re there to help anyone in need, especially the homeless at this time of year.

2. The shoe boxes are designed to help those living on the streets this year as it’s already begun to get cold, so there’s a few specific items the street angels would like you to include. In particular; toothbrush and toothpaste, soap/shower gel, baby wipes/deodorant, hairbrush/comb, hats, scarves, gloves, warm socks, a torch and some chocolate, sweets or biscuits.

3. You can add other items to the shoe boxes as well, but just not anything sharp or alcoholic. Anything else though, and you should be ok.

4. Wrap up all your items into a shoe box, but make sure to wrap the lid and the box separately so the staff can more easily inspect the contents once you’ve dropped them off.

5. When you’re ready with your box remember to bring a £1 with you to the drop off point, because the organisers will need it to manage the distribution costs of handling your shoe boxes and making sure they get to those who need them.
