Being a bit dog crazy, I absolutely jumped at the chance to cover the pop up Pub Dogs Of Manchester photography exhibition at Kosmonaut last night. Wilmslow based Photographer Georgie Glass has spent the last year photographing man’s best friend in canine-accommodating public houses and bars across Manchester. The exhibition was a chance for her to pre-launch her coffee table book, Pub Dogs Of Manchester, commissioned by Freight Publishing and due to hit the shelves this November.

The evening also gave Georgie a chance to thank the ‘stars of the book’, the dogs themselves who were all invited down to congregate at dog-friendly Kosmonaut. And knowing you can never keep a good dog down, the pub dogs took part in a specially designed ‘dogstacle’ course with the green show ring of Crufts switched for the cobbles of Manchester with Pasta Paul as judge! There is also a ‘best in show’ competition running on a likes-on-Instagram @kosmonautmcr basis for the next seven days with the winner to be announced on Wednesday 12th August.

The photos themselves are fantastic, and manage to capture the different characters of all the different breeds of dogs. I spoke with Georgie and she told me: “this project means so much to me as the day I signed the contract for the book was the same day I picked up my beautiful dog Lolli. It’s been a learning curve and I have picked up so many great tips from all the dog owners who so kindly gave me their time. The dogs were fantastic and I learnt how to get their attention using a number of tricks and treats to get the best shot.”

Hands down favourites for me were Columbo Dog (didn’t catch their name but you can’t go wrong with a soppy Hush Puppy Basset Hound); and Winston the Bulldog who stole the show and squeezed his way into everyone’s pictures and hearts! VIVAEms added some much needed glamour and tunes on the decks and a great night was had by all, cuddly friends included.  I just wish I could have taken my Briard, Sir Aubry de Montdidier (Monty), but I fear there would have been one or two upturned tables as he’s a bit on the large side and very excitable!

I can’t wait for the book to come out. We will let you know the launch details ASAP!
