Grammy-Award winning trumpeter Keyon Harrold will perform at one of Manchester’s premier jazz venues, ‘Band on the Wall, on April 10.

Praised by jazz giant Wynton Marsalis as “the future of the trumpet”, Harrold’s performance is not to be missed. The show will be a rare chance to witness a sonic extravaganza from “one of the top ten new artists to watch”, as hailed by Rolling Stone in 2017.

The tour is in support of his recent album The Mugician. Special guests will include the hotly-tipped pianist Ashley Henry of the RE:ensemble and journalist and all round jazz champion Tina Edwards who will be warming up the vibes on the turntables with her choice selection of cuts.

Band on the Wall, based in The Northern Quarter, has it’s roots deep in Manchester’s jazz scene. Hosting artists from the local area as well as international artists since its opening in the early 20th century.

‘Mugician’ is a portmanteau of the words ‘musician’ and ‘magician’. The Mugician pushes the boundaries of the traditional jazz trumpet. “The album celebrates the importance of family and the absolute necessity of optimism in the face of darkness and doubt.” Harrold draws on elements of jazz, classical, rock, blues and hip hop in his music to create something uniquely modern.

Keyon Harrold was born and raised in Ferguson, Missouri. The birthplace of the internationally recognised Black Lives Matter movement. He became the go-to trumpet player for the stars, including Snoop Dogg, Jay Z, Beyonce, and jazz artists such as Billy Harper and Charles Tolliver.
