Kick back at Kirkbank: The ultimate winter getaway

Us Brits are always ready for a weekend away abroad, forgetting what beautiful landscapes our country plays host to. Not only can staying in the UK save you some pennies, but you get to see your homeland in a new, refreshing way. VIVA has done some research into where you can go to relax, unwind and make some memories (in luxury) this winter.

Introducing … Kirkbank Cottage! This luxurious cottage is located right up North and is surrounded by rivers, fields and cute country pubs. We decided to take a trip up to Kirkbank to give it a go, but firstly let me tell you the drive isn’t for the faint hearted. Through fields, over narrow bridges – I’m sure the drive would be lovely in the day but going on a stormy evening proved to be quite an adventure! When we arrived at the cottage, the drive was soon forgotten … we were blown away by the designer furnishing, large comfy sofas and big open fire. To add to the luxurious aesthetic, there was even a stunning grand piano in the corner of the living room.  It’s safe to say, I was extremely impressed and excited to be here for a few days.

Over the course of our stay, we drank some warming red wine at one of the local pubs, had a go in the outside bathtub (it’s huge in real life!) and went out for walks in the country lanes. It was amazing to get some real fresh air, living in a city makes you appreciate the crisp country air so much more! We couldn’t have handled the cold without our Regatta jackets (pictured on Jack) – tip for those who head up, bring a big insulated jacket so you don’t feel the chill during the walks. The cottage is the perfect place to go with friends and enjoy each others company, or go with a loved one on a romantic getaway. Luckily for me, the wi-fi was really fast and they had complimentary Netflix – so I was sorted! For someone like me who loves going on city breaks abroad, this had a totally different feel. When you fly away you can’t relax as there’s so much to do. But after a few relaxing days at Kirkbank I felt refreshed and relaxed – everything you need during the hectic winter months.
