Larmer Tree Festival 2016

1607_untitled_001As summer festivals come and go, the Larmer Tree Festival in Dorset is into it’s 26th year and is going strong. With a capacity crowd for the weekend this family festival with music, comedy, poetry, story telling, crafts, theatre, massages, art installations and great selections of food and drink, you could come for a holiday. In fact you can make a weeks holiday at Larmer Tree by coming on the Monday and leaving the following Monday… how’s that for a festival !!

We are always excited to be at Larmer Tree amongst the glorious Dorset countryside and on a clear day the Isle of Wight can be seen in the distance from the festival. Unlike a recent Somerset festival a few weeks earlier, the weather was just perfect with a pleasant breeze and sunshine for a lot of the time.

The party got underway on Wednesday with Jack Savoretti and  Grammy award winner Jamie Cullum headlining the main stage. The main stage headliners were excellent and included Caro Emerald, The Stranglers, Calexico and on Sunday Tom Odell rounded of the music.

Other highlights of this years festival were ‘Punk Poet’ Dr. John Cooper Clarke with his rapid fire poetry and Kate Adie who was the BBC’s chief news correspondent  from 1989- 2003 in a packed ‘Lost Wood’ talking about her life and work.

Laid out in 1880 by the archaeologist General Pitt Rivers, the Larmer Tree gardens were devised as a pleasure ground for ‘public enlightenment and entertainment’. I’m sure Pitt Rivers would be more than happy to know that the Larmer Tree Festival organisers are keeping that ethos going.

The Larmer Tree Festival takes place in July.
