MARTENS is calling for final applications from young music fans in Manchester and the North West to its #STANDFORSOMETHING Scholarship before the deadline, which closes this Friday.

As part of the British footwear brand’s ongoing commitment to new music, this year saw Dr. Martens strike up a new partnership with SSR to start to support those who aspire to work on the other side of the music industry.

Together they set up the #STANDFORSOMETHING Scholarship which will see four successful applicants have their full course fees covered to study at SSR’s London or Manchester campuses and leave with an industry recognised diploma in Music Production & Sound Engineering.

SSR started as a recording studio in Manchester in 1980; with influential bands such as The Smiths, The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays and many more passing through its doors. In 1984, after a prompt from the late great Tony Wilson, the company moved into education and became the UK’s first dedicated sound engineering school.

Now over 30 years on, SSR has grown into an international college, delivering a range of courses from weekend tasters to Honours Degrees in Music Production, Sound Engineering, 3D Film and Animation. SSR has campuses in Manchester, London and Jakarta – each one housing state of the art facilities. With the help of industry active tutors, SSR has built a reputation for first class training and has seen its graduates achieve phenomenal success.

Dr. Martens will be following the progress of the winners through their course and giving them on-site experience at its various events throughout the year.

Applications must be received by 24 July. All applicants will be contacted by 29 July, with shortlisted applicant in-person interviews at their desired campus scheduled for the week beginning 3 August. Entrants can apply here.
