Artist Mark Kennedy is a renowned Mancunian artist, with some of his best mosaic work famously adorning the outside of the iconic Affleck’s Palace venue in the city.
His latest masterpiece is currently on display at there, before going to auction at Vegas Fight Night, a high profile boxing event organised by ‘Manchester Sports Entertainment Ltd’ (M-SEL), and is set to raise thousands for local charities Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, CAFT and Once Upon A smile, later this month. It celebrates boxing great – Floyd Mayweather, and is dedicated to Kennedy’s own hero, his dad.
Mark said: “I’m a massive fan of all sports, but my dad is the big boxing fan in our family. I made this for him.’ Adding: He believes Floyd is the greatest boxer in the world. Word has spread from across the pond that Mayweather himself could be a possible phone bidder for this prestigious item, a move that Kennedy would welcome.’If Floyd was to bid on the mosaic it would be fantastic. He needs a bit of Mancunian art in his world! Manchester is known worldwide for its outstanding music, arts and culture, so it would be a fantastic piece for any collector.”
Event organiser James Lindemann of M-SEL said: “We are proud and grateful to Mark, for creating another one his great mosaics, which will no doubt raise a significant amount of money for our charity partners at our event.” The mosaic, which features over five thousand tiles and took over three months to create, is now on display at Affleck’s Palace before going up for auction at the Vegas Fight night at the Hilton Manchester on 31st January.
