A new collection of paintings by leading UK artist Lincoln Townley, depicting the frenetic energy and dark underbelly of Los Angeles is being launched at The DoubleTree by Hilton in Manchester’s Piccadilly before it jet sets off to be shown at The Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles at the end of October.

Having painted many of Hollywoods leading stars including Charlie Sheen, Nick Nolte, Harry Dean Stanton and Al Pacino, The LA Collection is the culmination of Townleys recent work.

Legendary actor and film director, John Huston described Hollywood as a cage to catch our dreams” and Townley captures life inside that cage where dreams of fame often turn into nightmares of excess from which some never escape.

The collection is created in the haunting style that has made Townley one of the most talked about artists on the contemporary art scene.  Describing the process of creating such distinctive works of art, Townley says: I express myself without fear. I descend into familiar, dark places, which, on many occasions, have almost consumed me. I paint without restraint.

After viewing The LA Collection, with its neon lights, dark skies and screaming faces, we are left asking: what is the truth about this incredible city? Is it a place where anything is possible or a city consumed by its own demons? Townley’s art agent in Los Angeles said “A small selection of Lincoln’s work arrived here and it’s gone down a storm, his energy is profound, the paintings he creates are just selling up before they have even landed – with this demand his original oil works have doubled in price in two months”

Townley has recently had three famous faces of his collection ICONS installed in the reception of The DoubleTree by Hilton and over the course of the next year will be showing a selection throughout the hotel, Townley is working closely with Craig Campbell the GM of the hotel and the new instalments will be completed in early September, leaving no question that this hotel is The Art Hotel of Manchester.
