To promote the new season of Britain’s Next Top Model (launched March 16), Lifetime UK were giving six lucky winners and one of their friends, a chance to spend a day in the life of a model. This unique prize included; taking part in modelling challenges across London, meeting the final 12 model contestants and attending the celebrity filled launch party on the night of the season’s premiere.
As a religious BNTM fan and someone who loves entering competitions – I immediately submitted my details. To my complete surprise, I received a phone call a few days later to say that I’d won! I couldn’t believe my ears as I was told that this included two nights staying in 5* hotels in Shoreditch; travel and expenses fully paid for and best of all, there was the chance to meet BNTM host and model, Abbey Clancy – I couldn’t pack my bags quick enough.
Anytime I step foot in London I always feel an exciting energy in the air. When we arrived at the Courthouse Hotel in Shoreditch, I knew this experience was going to be like no other.
After an evening of pampering ahead of the big day, we awoke to the hustle and bustle of the city, ready to start our modelling adventure. We were met by the Lifetime team, ready with filming equipment to document our day for their website. Each of the competition winners were given one of the infamous Britain’s Next Top Model cards which revealed which cycle 11 model we would be teamed up with and representing for the day- I was #TeamBianca.
During the day we met up with the contestants and each model gave their team member valuable modelling advice for our challenges ahead.
Throughout the day, we needed to be active on our social media accounts; posting our whereabouts, taking picture of the challenges we took part in and continuously hash-tagging to promote our team. The aim of this was that whoever gained the most exposure for their team would win the overall prize – a photo with Abbey Clancy at Lifetime’s launch party!
We left our 5* hotel to find a party bus awaiting to chauffeur us around London to the different locations for our challenges. Travelling in style like true celebrities, we were provided with Prosecco to compliment our journey. The three challenges each reflected the type of spontaneous ‘Go See’ challenges that the models take part in on the show.
Challenge One: Debenhams
Our first challenge was with Debenhams and we were given just five minutes to choose, change into and style an outfit from the ‘Nine’ collection by Savannah Miller. Each girl raced towards the clothing rail, fighting for their first pick of the clothing – it was a true Britain’s Next Top Model moment. We then had to post a photo modelling our outfit and tell the stylist why we had chosen the clothing and what type of event they would be worn to.
The winner of this challenge was the girl who modeled their outfit the best and they received a £200 voucher to spend in Debenhams.
Challenge Two: Sleek Makeup
Our second challenge was the hardest by far. We were taken to a studio, told to remove our makeup and we were given 15 minutes to reapply it using Sleek makeup products to create a bold look. But there was one catch – we had to do this without any mirrors! Here was my attempt:
By winning this challenge for the best makeup attempt, you received a bag full of Sleek makeup products.
Challenge Three: Boohoo
The final challenge of the day took place in an edgy warehouse where we were greeted by stylist from the online fashion store Boohoo, who presented us with a selection of Boohoo jackets and accessories. The challenge was to style ourselves with a Boohoo jacket and accessories to comply an outfit which best represented us.
The winner of this challenge was the girl who styled themselves with an outfit reflected their personality the best. The winner could keep their chosen outfit.
During the final challenge, the overall winner was announced as the Lifetime team had been following our social media accounts all day to see who had promoted their model the best and who had attracted the most attention to their team. And the winner was… ME. This meant that I won the opportunity to meet and photograph with Abbey Clancy at the launch party later that night!
The Britain’s Next Top Model Launch Party
After hours of making ourselves look glam, we entered the launch party hosted at the Village Underground, located right opposite from our second hotel, CitizenM, Shoreditch. With a daring red carpet, champagne handed on entry and extravagant canapés – you couldn’t not feel like a star.
Around 8pm, the stunning cycle 11 models made their entrance and it wasn’t a quiet one. With the theme of ‘Rock Riot’, they emerged in single file with whistles, banners, horns and bashing bin lids through the crowd, making their way to the centre stage where they each posed whilst their names were introduced.
Host Abbey Clancy made her bold entrance holding a flare as she stunned in a revealing mesh dress, followed by judges Paul Sculfor, Nicky Johnston and Hilary Alexander.
In the mix of the party were reality stars such as Love Island favourites, Olivia Buckland and Alex Bowen, Towie’s Jess Wright and Lydia Bright and Big Brother contestant, Andy West. Last season’s Britain’s Next Top Model finalists Jenna Mcmahon, Georgia Butler, Lexi Kelly and cycle 10 winner, Chloe Keenan also came along for the launch.
At 9pm, we watched the new season premiere live on the big screen as the models cringed and laughed seeing their audition tapes and first challenge back for the first time. Throughout the night, everyone enjoyed the free bar, mingled and danced with the models. Their was a chance to get photos with the celebrity guests, this BNTM contestants and I finally got my winning photo with Abbey!
This was definitely an experience that I will never forget.
