NEW: Experience VR at Virtual Hideout Manchester

Holly Harris | 25th May 2018

Virtual Hideout is a virtual reality and gaming hub located in Deansgate offering people the chance to experience room-scale virtual reality and gaming, whether it be alone or in a group.

You have most likely heard of the term virtual reality, but have you tried it? Virtual Hideout is offering the opportunity for newbies or the experienced to play and experience the world of VR.

We got the chance to go and try it out for ourselves, four beginners, ready and eager for our introduction to VR.

As we arrived, we were greeted by our expert games host, who guided us into the gaming hub room where we were faced with the VR games console.

The room was pretty bare, with three seats to spectate and the console, it didn’t look like much to begin with.

Our games host then talked us through the concept of VR and explained how it works.

If you are as confused as we were, Virtual Reality is defined as: The computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional image or environment that can be interacted with in a seemingly real or physical way by a person using special electronic equipment, such as a helmet with a screen inside or gloves fitted with sensors.

As the experience begun, we were invited up one-by-one to play a variety of games. As we had been booked on to the ‘I havn’t played before‘ session, the hour mainly consisted of taking it in turns to try out simple games to showcase how VR looks and works.

The weirdest game I played involved stepping backwards into a lift, heading to the top floor and walking the plank off the top of the building! To my friends watching, I must have looked ridiculous, but it really did feel like you were standing on top of a building – definitely ask to try this one out if you’re up for a surreal experience.

There are a number of themes for your session to chose from: Horror, shooters, escape rooms and puzzles, sci-fi, family, kids and beginners.

Overall, the experience was unique and a good chance to experience what VR is like without investing in a console yourself.

For me, it was a one time thing, a good laugh if you go with a group, but for £20 per person, it did seem a little expensive.

However, if you are looking for a weird and wacky family day out or experience with your friends or work colleagues (1-4 players), this is definitely the place to go!
