It’s the end of May and you know what that means… It’s the official Ibiza opening parties. ‘I said what comes before part B??… Part AAAA!’

As you know VIVA take flight on our annual Ibiza trips each summer bringing you the best places to eat, sleep, rave and repeat!

It was just a short trip for us on this occasion, we had flown out to see local Manchester talent, Girls That Mix who were preforming out on the white island at La Escollera.

If you haven’t heard of Girls That Mix ‘GTM’ before, then let us explain who they are…

E.M.A (DJ), Girl On Sax (saxophonist) and Lash’em (percussionist) are three cheeky chic ladies who are taking the UK by storm with their unique collaboration of funky house party mixes tied with jazzy sax grooves and an uber cool feel of percussion beats.

Between the three of them, they have over 30 years experience in the industry, have travelled far and wide to the likes of Dubai, Ibiza, Cuba, Sweden, Finland, Philippines, Croatia, and Paris just to mention a few, as well as playing in some of the worlds top venues such as London o2 Arena, Manchester Apollo, the legendary Space in Ibiza and Warehouse Project.

The girls have also played along side some of the biggest DJ’s and musicians in the world such as Sigma, Rudimental, Jools Holland, Fun Lovin Criminals, Brandon Block, Radio One’s Danny Howard and Erick Morillo, whilst holding an extensive list of festivals under their belts which include; Glastonbury, Hideout, Snowbombing, Parklife, Kendal Calling and Bestival.

Girls That Mix are preparing for their biggest year yet, with many international dates lined up to take their memorable performances far, and focussing heavily on bringing their original music to the dance floor.

We met up with the girls for a day of fun down at the legendary Ocean Beach Ibiza.

Ocean Beach Ibiza is always a big must for VIVA on our annual Ibiza trip, from the DJ’s to the food and drink to the staff we give it a big ten out of ten every-time.

This year we treated ourselves and Girls That Mix, to the VIP experience and booked a pool bed in the VIP area.

We advise you to book your VIP bed in advance to avoid disappointment. Pool beds hold up to eight people, all other VIP beds hold ten people. The bed packages include entrance to the venue plus a selection of drinks from champagne to spirits plus you have a great view of the pool and DJ booth whilst being slightly separate from the centre of the party!

We headed down on the Wednesday to Poolside Sessions, just a normal day at the office for Ocean Beach Ibiza where you can rock up anytime throughout the day and enjoy the awesome pool, music, restaurant and bar service with DJ’s spinning some of the biggest house tracks of the summer.

So as we chilled on our VIP bed in the Ibiza sunshine with a refreshing glass of vodka, lime and soda listening to some house music beats, we had a little catch up with the girls from Girls That Mix who were nursing a bit of a sore head from last nights shenanigans…

VIVA: What did you get up to last night then girls?

May (Girl On Sax): Well we chilled all day by our hotel roof top pool which had the most amazing view across the ocean, then we found out it was the opening party of Tuesdays on Mars at Pacha with Fatboy Slim so we thought, right we’re so going to that!

Rach (Lash’em): This is my first time in Ibiza so the girls really wanted to take me to one of the super clubs, I really like Fatboy Slim and he was incredible last night at Pacha.

Ems (E.M.A): It was one of the best sets I’ve seen a DJ play this year, he was very inspiring! Plus Claptone was on before Norman, I’d never seen him live before and he was pretty amazing too and there was a few people in the crowd wearing that scary gold bird mask!

VIVA: Have you guys been to Ocean Beach Ibiza before?

Ems: Ya I’ve been here a few times, I love it, is one of my favourite places to come during the day in Ibiza, always great vibes, I actually DJ’d here a couple of years ago at the Kinky Malinki party with Unity Radio it was an amazing day, myself and a load of my mates where in one of those booths by the dance-floor.

I love the female DJ who is on the decks today, she’s playing some absolute winners, we can’t stop dancing, we went crazy in the pool when she dropped ‘Sunshine’ by Tieks.

May: The food’s amazing down here too, our Ibiza diet is out the window today and we’ve just ordered the mini burger platter, it’s delicious, oh and we love our waiter Ryan he’s so friendly, in fact everyone is down here, really great vibes!

VIVA: Rach I know this is your first time in Ibiza but Ems and May have you played anywhere else in Ibiza?

May: Ya myself and Ems played at Sol House by Ibiza Rocks pool party last year which was ace plus Ems played at the legendary Space the year before it closed at Carl Cox Music Is Revolution.

Ems: Ya that was something pretty special, I will never forget playing there that night, it was the third to last party Carl Cox was hosting before it closed, I was so lucky to be involved and to play at such an iconic venue!

VIVA: What’s in the pipeline for Girls That Mix this summer?

Rach: Well right now we are going to continue enjoying the VIP experience down here at Ocean Beach Ibiza haha! Tomorrow we have our gig at La Escollera on the other side of the island, which looks like an incredible venue, we have more gigs in the UK, Mallorca, Portugal and Santorini, plus we are aiming to release our debut house single by the end of the year.
