This show is based on the great Billy Wilder film, which tells the story of Norma Desmond, the screen goddess of the silent era that ends tragically. It showcases both obsession and romance. The musical features Ria Jones as Norma Desmond and Danny Mac as Joe Gillis, who recently starred in Strictly Come Dancing.

Sunset Boulevard, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical, has very melodramatic story line. A young scriptwriter arrives in Hollywood and is hired and persuaded by Norma Desmond to work on her film script. Norma Desmond is desperate to get her fame back one day. His arrival changes things for both of them. However, it comes with consequences.

The story keeps the audience entertained from the beginning till the end. Lots of unexpected things occur throughout the whole show. Different scenes are changing quickly, keeping a good pace to the performance. Of course, romantic scenes do not miss from this musical. Great romance develops throughout the plot of Sunset Boulevard.

The musical is performed by a full orchestra and plays songs such as ‘The Greatest Star of All’, ‘Sunset Boulevard’ or ‘With One Look’.

Sunset Boulevard has a great acting company with an outstanding performance from Ria Jones as the lead character. She put lots of emotions into her role and her singing performances were very impressive. The musical has a great atmosphere and the design of different scenes is well-thought.

The actors received a great honour from the audience, a standing ovation at the end of the show. Sunset Boulevard is definitely worth watching. The show will be in Palace Theatre in Manchester until Saturday 4th of November.
