Review: Beauty on the Go

Jessica Dobbs | 15th December 2017

Every woman has been there, hair a mess, face stressed, and flying out the front door with barely your head screwed on, just because you snoozed all 14 alarms…

You head to your morning commute looking like something the cat dragged in and you think, why have I not got a permanent make-up set in my bag for emergencies like this?

Well, seek no further… INIKA which is a 100% natural ingredients make-up brand, has launched a limited edition ‘Beauty on the Go’ for those problematic situations, and with the added extra of being vegan and animal testing free, INIKA make-up can be applied without the guilt of wondering who and what suffered for your comfort?

First impression:

Coming in a sleek smooth box with a magnetic clasp and descriptions of each product’s purpose and ingredients, the INIKA ‘Beauty on the Go’ set did not fail to excite. With the size being easy enough to fit in a handbag, it is practical for everyday use. Also, you can take the products out and put them in small clutches or shoulder bags. However, the products are hard to grasp since the foam they sit in is very fitted and it took some rummaging to finally grab hold.

Applying on the go:

Whilst all hot and flustered sitting on a tube train for the next hour, it was time to put the INIKA’s ‘Beauty on the Go’ up to the real test.

Well, the most obvious, why does it not come with a mirror? This resulted in using the front camera of a phone! Another problem was there being nothing to use to apply the make-up with, which resulted in foundation hands and having to be careful not to stain clothes.

What’s inside:

The Organic Liquid Foundation did not offer quite the same pleasing scent once opened, and in fact presented a nasty odour. Furthermore, it did not spread well across the face and required a large quantity to give full coverage, meaning it would be used up very quickly. However, once applied, it looked smooth and matched my skin tone.

The Organic Pure Primer dispersed a fragrance of citrus when unsealed and once applied offered a fresh minty feel that hydrated the skin. However, with the bottle only holding 4ml and the need to apply a lot to fully cover the face, it certainly wouldn’t last long.

The INIKA signature brush glides softly across the face, distributing the powder evenly and finishes with an airbrushed look. The bamboo handle, (which is sourced from sustainable forestry) gives a weighty feel to help glide the brush steadily across the skin.

The Loose Mineral Foundation was difficult to open and needed tweezers to grab the label and peel back. On the other hand, there was no smell and when applied gave an even coverage that covered blemishes. The finished appearance looked flawless and well blended (from using the brush) and didn’t seem too powdery.

Is it worth it?

All in all, ‘Beauty on the Go’ is worth it, but only if it were lowered in price, as £44 (from Feel Unique) is a bit pricey, however they are doing 60% off, so for only £17.60 it’s perfect for those emergency situations!
