Review: Festival of Light

Adam McManus | 11th December 2017

This winter the Festival of Light came to Manchester and lit up the whole room with fairly lights, giant displays and with pure light from fire.

Bowlers Exhibition center opened their doors to the wonderful festival goers of Manchester. The displays were by far some of the most phenomenal lit up displays to be ever seen.

Festival goers were encouraged to dress up and fit the theme of ‘light’ and did they go all out. Some of the audience members got stuck in with their costumes, showing off with bright colors shooting all around the huge room.
Glitter, psychedelic paint and face paints were offered to everyone so they could fit in with the theme, at stalls circling the room.

Front stage, the performers brought something even more terrific than could ever be imagined. Fire displays from performers using the flames to their advantage, created magical performances from it. On this stage the balls of fire were not the only stars shining bright. Dancers and acrobatics flung themselves through the light breaking air, shining like diamonds in the darkened room.

The dancers and acrobatics twisted and turned their beautiful bodies with lights wrapped around, creating twirls of colors through the use of their flexible bodies.

On stage were giant UV displays decorating all around the room to light up the darkened room. Hanging from the ceilings were decorative, huge unique lights in the shapes of jellyfishes dangling for all to see.

What made this festival different however, was the parades that marched through the crowd. It made it seem as though everyone was a part of the festival, everyone had a role to be fulfilling. Giant spectacular light up creations roamed through the crowd while everyone continued to jump up and down to all the excitement.

A shout out to the great DJ’s who provided the music. House, garage, techno and bass were played through the room, bouncing off the walls with the bright colors of light.

The hosts on stage, introducing acts had the audience members hyped up for the whole night, dancing to some of their favorite tunes, throughout the unique festival. If there is one thing for certain, EVERYONE in Manchester needs to be attending the festival again next year.

With cheap drink tokens available so you enjoy your night even more with an alcoholic beverage in your hand, this night was unforgettable. Even with the amount of drinking that could be done.

Overall, the night succeeded in bringing a great mood to everyone just before Christmas. Continue your life by shining just as bright as this festival.
