The winner of 2016 X Factor, Matt Terry has announced his debut album ‘Trouble’ which is set to be released on the 24th of November.

Matt Terry meant business from the first moment he stepped on the X Factor stage. With Nicole Scherzinger by his side, he took the show by storm and considering his talent, there is no wonder why he won. Moreover, his debut single ‘When Christmas Comes Around’ peaked at number three in the UK Single Charts. If this is not a proof that the British singer is here to stay and to top the charts, then we do not know what it is.

His album takes the listener on a journey throughout the 14 tracks, each one expressing different stages and sides of love or emotions that most of us can relate to.

Matt Terry’s debut album begins with the already released song ‘Sucker For You’ whose music video, filmed in Miami, got over 800 000 views on YouTube.

This track illustrates a darker side of love, one that is pernicious. Lyrically, the song is strong and with a powerful emotional impact if you pay close attention to them. However, musically it is quite the opposite. It is catchy and lively and we are certain that it will get the crowd moving and grooving. The combination of the two of them puts the lyrics and music in a contrast but, at the same time, it creates a balance and an equilibrium between the two elements. About this song and its video, Matt states:

“We’ve all been in that position when we know a relationship is toxic and not good for us, but sometimes we ignore it and refuse to let go. Filming the video in Miami was epic, I had to do all my own stunts which involved being underwater and the car I am in catching fire. It was incredible!”

Many of us cannot let go of love, even though it hurts or if it is bad for us. The same type of feeling is in ‘Got You’, but with a bit of surrender. The sound of guitar strings and rhythmically snapped fingers accompany this track that highlights Matt’s vocals.

Trouble’ is my favourite and it is the type of song I would like to hear in a club because of the music. It has got quite an exotic vibe that will not allow you to stay still while listening to it.

‘The Thing About You’ portrays a more poignant image. If the previous three had powerful lyrics in antithesis with the music, this track is emotional from the beginning until the end. Nonetheless, Matt’s voice visibly stands out in this one, bringing multiple vocal ranges. Everyone loves a broken-hearted artist and we absolutely love this side of Matt Terry.

After you are left heartbroken, you need to move on and that is what ‘Re-Writing History’ is about. Clearly, it is easier said than done, the artist pointing this out as well. This song can easily become an anthem for everyone who wants to move on and the animated music will help you out. No more sad songs while trying to move on.

The other tracks on the album follow the same concept, presenting the less pleasant part of love, the heartbroken, the hurt, but keeping the lyrics in contrast with the music.

Two songs on the record surprised me, in a good way. Through ‘Mama’ and ‘Romeo Y Juliet’ the artist brings the Latin rhythm and the Latin passion on the new album. If the first one is more alert, the last one portrays a more intense and longing love, suggested by the name itself.

The songs order is well balanced, alternating from a livelier song to a sadder one and the other way around which is a good illustration of love and life in general. Nothing is smooth sailing and there are always going to be bumpy rides along the way.

Matt Terry’s debut album is full of emotion and passion, with strong lyrics that are either highlighted by a slower music or that are in antithesis with it. The whole record carries the listener through a journey of love, heartbreak, moving on and getting over.

Do not forget to set up a reminder for the 24th of November because this is when the album will be released and we are confident that, with his daily growing fanbase, the record will top the charts.
