After 15 years of chart success, Chase & Status’ latest project ‘RTRN II JUNGLE’ has caused hysteria within the underground music scene. Returning to the roots of their sound and fresh back from a trip to Jamaica, they hold a fresh army of new material harking right back to the genres roots in Dub & Reggae. With a series of livestreams, tour dates and fashion exhibitions, RTRN II JUNGLE is one of the most exciting projects in Drum and Bass to date.

Showcasing at Notting hill Carnival in August, it received a giant welcome from the audience and paved the way for its sell out tour and first two singles ‘Retreat’ and ‘Heater’. Jungle music emerged in UK in the early 90’s, influenced by Jamaican Dancehall. Finding its home in London it became a form of cultural expression for the Capitals youth. As the genre developed it split into many forms of electronic music which are still popular today. London was always said to be the home of Jungle and a sold out Printworks line up was a giant statement for the future of the genre.

A five-minute walk from Canada Water station lies a monstrous ex-industrial printing factory. Hailed as one of the largest printing factories in Europe in its time, the venue is an experience in itself. With a capacity of 6,000, lasers as far as the eye can see and impeccable sound on the factory’s many systems, Printworks is a must in the millennials raving calendar.

Jungle pioneers ‘Randal’ ‘Dj Ron’ and ‘Brockie’ kept the event rolling with their respected MC’s. Not only was the lineup filled with stars, musicians like Dizzee Rascal flocked rig side to watch this historic event. Many young musicians we see today were influenced by jungle which helped them develop their own sound. These influences can still be heard today.

From 9 – 11 Chase & Status tore down the venue with rewinds, chanting and genuine good vibes. From start to finish the set was spectacular and highlighted why Chase & Status are such important UK producers. Spearheading the rebirth of Jungle music for 2019 with the launch of their new album, everyone can only anticipate with excitement what might be next.
