Six of our favourite celebrities and their cars

 

Actors, musicians and people just famous for being famous generally tend to get lumped under the same banner headline that shouts ‘celebrity’.

 

Certainly, some deserve the accolade more than others, but the fact remains that celebrity brings status of a sort and, usually, a healthy income that allows the individual to enjoy some of the luxuries of life and why not?

 

When it comes to cars, some celebs like an ostentatious set of wheels while others prefer to be a little more conscious of their environment. Some are sponsored by motor manufacturers whilst others love cars so much they like to collect them. One of the latter groups also happens to be one of the 20^th Century’s greatest prog-rock musicians.

 

Nick Mason

 

A mainstay of the legendary band Pink Floyd and a genuinely nice man, Nick Mason has an enviable collection of some legendary cars, both new and classic. He is also a fan and enthusiastic supporter of motor sport and his collection does much to preserve automotive heritage.

A more recent edition happens to be the slightly oddly named LaFerrari, one in a long line of exquisite cars from the prestige Italian brand. Ferrari’s are out of reach of most budgets but it is possible to hire one to try out some of Europe’s great driving roads, so there’s that.

 

 

Jude Law

 

 

One of the UK’s finest actors, Jude Law is also partial to a nice car and owns several but the model that is possibly nearest to his heart is a classic Mercedes-Benz SL380 in which he unfortunately had a minor shunt in 2017. No one was hurt and the car at least remained drivable but the repair bill may have caused some pain.

 

 

 

Chris Evans

 

 

Another huge fan of and collector of cars is the popular, depending upon your point of view, radio DJ and TV presenter Chris Evans. His tenure at the Top Gear studio might have been short but there is no doubting his enthusiasm for performance cars which explains one of his most recent purchases, a McLaren 650S.

 

 

 

Jay Kay

 

The musician is another celebrity with a genuine interest in cars and he has owned some seventy luxury cars over the years. The vehicle that stands out though is the Lamborghini Muira. Built over a seven-year model period, this gorgeous now-classic car has graced the walls of many a schoolboy’s bedroom, usually alongside an image of Ursula Andress, but that’s another story.

 

 

 

Rowan Atkinson

 

Another petrol-head of long standing, the popular comedian and really rather good serious actor Rowan Atkinson, is another car-mad celebrity but, alas, he is best known for spinning off the road and into the scenery in his McLaren F1 sports car. It happens to the best of us.

 

 

 

Wayne Rooney 

 

Finally, did you know that Wayne Rooney, way back in his early days at Everton was presented with a Ford Ka, proving conclusively that we all have to start somewhere. Many of us could afford a Ka. Who knows where it might lead?
