Take yourself for a taste explosion at The Lowry Hotel River Restaurant!

The Lowry Hotel River restaurant has just revealed their brand new A-La-Carte menu and it is an absolute must try! Whilst they keep their classy style and incredible flavours, they have introduced some of the nation’s classic favourites to the menu and we could not be happier.

For a continental favourite, you can tuck into the crispy duck spring rolls. Priced at £9.00, these spring rolls are filled with tender duck pieces, spring onions, plum sauce and for a little twist, some pickled cucumber. The pastry is cooked to perfection with a crispy texture which strongly holds in the fillings but melts into your mouth when bitten into.

Another twist on a classic they serve is Crab Macaroni cheese. We all know and love the classic Mac N Cheese dish, so this is essentially its more refined sibling. Served with a garlic and lemon crumb on top with the classic cheesy pasta underneath. To give this dish its modern twist they have beautifully paired it with delicate crab meat within the pasta to give this dish a phenomenal taste. This was priced a little higher than the Crispy duck rolls, at £9.50, however, the portion size for this dish was huge, so you get lots for your money!

They also serve split pea and ham soup, The Lowry green salad, charcoal grilled leek salad, twice baked Lancashire bomb souffle, potted shrimps and beef bresaola. With a price range of £7.50- £10.50.

For mains, there was plenty of options, from Steak, chicken and pies to 900g ribs, roasted leg of lamb and beef wellington. As we had been told the beef wellington was Chef Andrew Green, the creator of the menus, favourite dish we had to try it! The chef on that night came out to show us the beef wellington before it was cut in the kitchen and boy did it look good!

Just from looking at it you could tell it was going to be cooked to perfection and it certainly didn’t let itself down. The pastry holding this indulgent main together was browned to perfections, crispy but not dry and melted in the mouth. After the initial taste of the pastry, the flavour of the mushroom duxelles and parma ham explodes on your tongue. Filling your mouth with that strong smoked flavour of the ham and the unique savoury taste of the mushrooms. The next taste explosion to hit was the fillet of beef, which had been hiding under all the other ingredients. This is when the saying of ‘best till last’ really hit home. The beef was succulent, cooked medium-rare to our preference and its flavoursome juices oozed out as you bit into it. I was literally in heaven as I tucked into this and it was worth every single penny!

For dessert, we opted for the milk chocolate tart with creme fraiche. This was the perfect serving size, meaning you could just about manage to fit it in without feeling overly stuffed. The chocolate was rich in flavour and smooth in texture as it should be and the pastry was crisp, with no soggy bottom, just how Mary Berry would have liked it.

Overall, the menu was a knockout. They have really nailed each and every item and ingredient, perfectly combining some of the nation’s favourites with a modern twist to give you that little bit extra. So if you are looking for someone to dine in the city, then The Lowry Hotels River restaurant is definitely a place you need to visit!
