The Laughing Elephant Cafe: A place for Fun, Flare and Fantastic Food!

Paige Tucker | 9th November 2017

The Laughing Elephant Cafe officially opened in the heart of Hale Barns village back in September with a star-studded VIP launch party, but it is still one of our favourite place to go.

The independently-owned Hale Road café focuses on providing freshly-made and locally-produced food and has proved a firm favourite with locals.

The Laughing Elephant Cafe is the first business venture for owners Daniel McDonald and Ben Rose, and follows an extensive six-week internal refurbishment and installation of an outside heated seating area and children’s play corner

Open daily from 7.30am during the week and 8 am at the weekend, The Laughing Elephant serves an array of hearty and healthy breakfasts, bagels, jackets and a wide selection of sandwiches and salads for lunch. To give you an idea of how amazing their dishes are, we have picked out some of our faves:

Homemade Cheshire Cheese & Caramelised Onion Pie with Baked Beans.

Glazed Ham with Pineapple & Chilli Salsa & Poached Egg.

Grilled Chicken Breast, Moroccan Spiced Apricot, Sultana & Almond Brown Rice & Crème Fraiche.

Smoked Salmon, Cream Cheese & Chive, Cucumber, Rocket with a Lemon & Dill Dressing on Toasted Bagel.

On Sundays they offer a range of delicious dishes, our faves are the black pepper crumbed goats cheese with chilli jam. Beef rump, with homemade Yorkshire pudding & real gravy pork loin with crispy crackling.

Co-owner Daniel McDonald said: “We make and serve only locally-sourced food and are committed to our goal, which was to open a venue that serves excellent, restaurant quality dishes at affordable prices.

“Our ethos is all about sourcing our food locally and supporting other local independent businesses in delivering high quality. We’re looking forward to welcoming our new customers and becoming an integral part of the Hale Barns community.”

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings the restaurant turns into a cosy bistro, with a carefully selected and executed ‘Best of British’ menu.

Situated only a few miles from Manchester airport and with excellent transport links, The Laughing Elephant is easily accessed by locals and those living further afield, making it the perfect place to visit for food.

They have even hosted for stars such as Coronation Street’s Catherine Tyldesley, BBC 6 Music presenter and Celebrity Mastermind star Chris Hawkins and Simon King from BBC 5 Live.

Booking in advance is recommended for The Best of British evening menu.
