2017 has seen the return of pattern. Tiles are no longer ceramic squares that are limited to splashbacks and floors. Plainer tiles such as brick style tiles take on bolder more creative patterns such as herringbone. Not only has pattern re-emerged with tile layout but on actual tiles with inspiration taken from Moroccan, Art Deco and Micro-floral sources. Tiles utilised in this manner add an instant colour statement to a room and make floors and walls exciting.

The key to emphasising such bold design is to ensure all other surfaces are neutral in colour. As texture is as big in interiors as it is in fashion this year, utilising textured surfaces enhances the overall scheme. Team such patterns with plain cabinets in kitchens and neutral sanitary ware in bathrooms.

With rich, deep, vibrant blues and greens being very much at the forefront of interior design this year a contemporary twist can be added by utilising cement effect tiles to emphasise the wall space and create a neutral cool toned floor. Alternatively, metallic tiles can be added to walls to emphasise the opulence of the scheme. For example copper tiles would emphasise a Kale green or Drawing room blue.
