Manchester’s very own Tom Walker is heading on his debut US Tour. VIVA caught up with him about his spectacular accomplishments.
VIVA HOPE: Hey Tom, you’ve just come back from performing on NBC’s Today show. How was that?
TOM: Crazy, totally crazy. It was so last minute- I had to leave the Walking on Cars tour for the last two days. I only had about a week plan my trip.
VIVA HOPE: Has your performance on the show had an impact on your following?
TOM: The feedback from the show has been great. I’ve noticed some of my social media followers have gone up but yeah that’s about it.
VIVA HOPE: How on earth do you stay so humble with all the success that you’re achieving.
TOM: (Chuckles) I’ve been friends with my mates since I was like 6 and I’ve been with my girlfriend for 3 years so they keep me really grounded.
VIVA HOPE: Are you still based in Manchester?
TOM: I’m based in London now because I do a lot of song writing here but I’m coming back to Manchester in a few weeks.
VIVA HOPE: Will you be back for BBC Introducing?
TOM: Yeah, I’ve done loads of stuff with the BBC. I’ve done track if the week, I’m performing at BBC Introducing so yeah they’ve been really good to me. I’ll be performing on the 7th of April and I’ll be bringing my mum with me.
VIVA HOPE: So you’ve done a lot, when would you say your ‘big break’ was?
TOM: Summer 2016. Definitely. It was when I played in Hyde Park on the same Sunday as Stevie Wonder. It was a really big deal to me because I’ve played at some gigs where I’ve had no money. At Hyde Park I had my own trailer and everything.
VIVA HOPE: Well, you’re going back on tour in a few days. How excited are you?
TOM: Yeah well I’m going for about 4 or 5 days, I’m just excited to get to know America, perform a few shows, see the people. I’ll be in New York and LA so it should be fun!
Tickets for Tom’s performance on the 7th of April at Night and Day in Manchester are available here.
