2016 X Factor winner, Matt Terry stood proudly at his album launch party in Manchester.

The X Factor champion launched his debut album, ‘Trouble’, with an exclusive party and a unique performance at the ABode Brasserie.

Some of you might know him from the show, some of you might not, but we suggest you get used to hearing his name because Matt Terry is here to stay and take on the charts. We are certain that it will happen especially with this new record that most of us can relate to.

Ahead of his performance, we chat with him about his journey throughout this year after X Factor, his debut album and, as holidays are coming up, about Christmas plans.

“It’s really challenging. When I was a contestant especially it was really hard and now as well because you have to live with the pressure that you have to do good. I had an amazing year so far. I had a top five single with Enrique Iglesias and Sean Paul and now I’ve got two singles of my album that is about to be released. I’m super happy”, Matt described this past year.

Nicole Scherzinger has been his mentor through the competition and when asked about the best advice she gave him, he stated: “She told me to be brave on stage and to let go a bit because at first, I was a bit reserved on stage. She just told me how to really let go and go up there and have fun.”

Even though his journey at the X Factor ended last year with him taking the winner title, it did not mean that he will not come back. He did, but this time as a performer. “It was so good to be back, to see everyone backstage, the judges, the contestants. I had a wicked time and the song had an amazing reaction.”

The title of this album is quite intriguing and even though there is a song called ‘Trouble’ on the record, we had to find out a more concrete answer. About it, Matt said: “The whole album is sort of about my journey over the past two-three years being in a relationship and how I felt during, in the middle, towards the end and afterwards and trouble was the word that kind of summed it up. Towards the end, I felt like I was stuck in a bit of a rut.”

A lot of work has been put on his debut album and Matt admitted that the whole process took him about eight months. “It’s been a long process, but really worth it.”

February has been the starting point of the album as this is the time when Matt Terry started writing and he must have had a lot of inspiration as 70 songs have been written in those eight months. “It was very hard (to pick the tracks of the album). At first, we narrowed them down right to 24 but after 24 it was really hard to get rid of 11 songs”, the singer said.

Even though we won’t probably hear all the 70 tracks that have been written, we might still hear some of them as the artist revealed that he might release them at another point.

Album pack shot

“I think the up tempos are the best part and I was known on the show for singing ballads so I’m excited for them to hear all the up-tempo stuff”, the 2016 X Factor winner said when he was asked if he thought there would be tracks on his debut album that might surprise his fans.

When we said that Matt Terry got in this industry and means business, well, we were right. The singer-songwriter is planning to go on his own tour next year and revealed that he is really excited about it. We are sure he is not the only one, his fans eagerly waiting for it.

“Performing live I think is my favourite part of the whole process,” the young British singer confessed.

As the Christmas lights have been switched on already, Matt Terry told us his plans for the holidays saying: “I’m hosting this year, so everybody is coming to my house. I’m going to get my family and my parents to cook and I’m just going to take pictures and pretend that I did it.”

For the album launch, the singer walked tall and proud on the small stage, starting to perform a few songs from the record.

His set kicked off with the track ‘Trouble’, getting the people in a bit of an exotic rhythm, a more up-tempo type of song.

‘Subeme la Radio’ has been next on the set, but in a more acoustic version that, of course, accentuated his amazing vocals. The song was followed by two of his already released ones of the album, ‘Sucker For You’ and ‘The Thing About Love’.

After taking a few pictures with the people present, Matt Terry went back to his hotel room, but the party still continued.

The guests enjoyed a great time at the ABode Brasserie bar that offered a sophisticated atmosphere. The mixologists took good care of the guests, keeping the cocktails flowing and at a closer look on the drinks menu, they could notice that it features the best wines from all around the world.

Matt Terry’s fans won’t have to wait too long to get their hands on a copy of ‘Trouble’. The album will be released tomorrow and we are certain that it will soon top the charts.

Moreover, the singer will return to Manchester next week for a live performance and signing session at the HMV in the Arndale Centre. Make sure you set your reminder on the 29th November and come down to meet your favourite from 5.30pm.
