Stars of BBC Breakfast and Coronation Street celebrated the opening of The Alchemist at Media City UK with an evening of canapés, cocktails and fireworks.

Familiar faces enjoying the new terrace overlooking their studios included Mike Bushell, Katherine Downes, Steph McGovan and Charlie Stayt.

From the other side of the water were Coronation Street actors Dean Fagan (Luke Britton), Colson Smith (Craig Tinker), Sair Khan (Alya Nazir), Melanie Hill (Cathy Matthews), Nicola Thorp (Nicola Rubenstein) and Victoria Ekanoye (Angie Appleton).

Mike Joyce, former drummer with The Smiths and now a DJ, was spotted chatting to Mary-Anne Hobbs of BBC 6 Music, who was DJing on the night.

You can’t miss The Alchemist building – it is gold and looks like a futuristic spaceship, transforming the Bund’s landscape. It’s also very close to the number 50 bus stop and the Metro tram stop.

The terrace, that overlooks the BBC and ITV studios, as well as The Lowry Theatre, the Imperial War Museum North and the University of Salford, has its own bar, umbrellas and heaters. So you can sit outside in all weathers.

Guests could enjoy one of an incredible 54 different cocktails on the menu that arrived in a wide variety of unusual receptacles, with smoke (dry ice) billowing out, looking more like a scientific experiment.

The evening was brought to a spectacular ending with fireworks shooting out over Salford Quays.

The Alchemist Media City UK is open from 9am until midnight Monday to Wednesday, 9am-1am Thursdays, 9am-2am Fridays, 10am-2am Saturdays and 10am-11pm Sundays.
