VIVA Turns The Beat Up With Drum Tribe at Joshua Brooks
| 17th July 2015
They say nothing encourages those happy endorphins than music and physical activity but Drum Tribes’ unique upbeat rhythm and performance is an invigorating energy that’s like no other. With the group set to give an interactive highly charged performance at Manchester’s Joshua Brooks from tonight to the 22nd July as part of Greater Manchester Fringe Festival, we decided to join Drum Tribe for a rumble on the drums.
Having heard the exhilarating echo of drum beats as we descended into Joshua Brooks’ basement area, the experience didn’t disappoint. With all of us getting a go on the drums, the hedonistic beats and euphoria of playing was an infectious pleasure that you couldn’t help but enjoy.
The band, who hail from Johannesburg in South Africa, were founded in 2002 by Shaun Reyneke. Since then they have gone onto to share their zest for drumming with audiences in the excess of one million, having over 4000 interactive performances under their belts in over 25 countries. The group have performed alongside the likes of music royalty 30 seconds To Mars, Metallica, Good Charlotte, Shakira, Shaggy and many more, while garnering many awards for amazing audiences with their World Class African Acts, such as 1st prize for Best Overall Performance against 24 other countries.
One of the three drummers performing at Joshua Brooks this week, Justin Badenhorst said: “It’s my first time in the UK and it’s all of our first times in Manchester. Manchester is beautiful, really cool. It’s got a young energy about it, it’s a great city.”
On what audiences could expect from the event he added: “A lot of fun, a lot of noise, a lot of energy. Everyone gets a drum. It’s interactive, so if you ever want to learn to play drums or have a good go then come down.”
We were also treated to meeting Colin Manford, brother of comedian Jason Manford, and Gemma Hepworth, who both present their show on That’s Manchester, a new local TV channel for Greater Manchester as they filmed Drum Tribe’s passionate performance.
The events costs £12.00 and will kick off from 7pm and with each audience member receiving traditional African Djembe drum they will be guided through one hour of energy fueled songs, dancing and rhythm!
Drum Tribe will also be performing at Malmaison hotel in Manchester tonight alongside our very own VIVAEms as she DJs at what promises to be a fun and energetic night!
