Where to wine and dine in Autumn time – The Botanist

Tara O'Connell | 4th October 2017

As we edge further into the Autumn months, it’s time to swap the summery dishes for tummy warming meals that make the colder evenings a little more bearable. Manchester is brimming with top notch diners, but which one is going to hit the spot and leave you feeling content and cosy?

Look no further… The Botanist is just where you should be wining and dining to give you that warming autumnal feeling. Some friends and I gave it a try earlier this week to see what offerings they have and we weren’t disappointed. Dimly lit, shabby chic with a home comforting atmosphere, The Botanist is the perfect place to meet up with pals and keep warm over some tasty nibbles. Despite being a popular chain, they have somehow made it feel like it’s a one-off little treasure trove right in the heart of Deansgate.

After arriving we were soon sat down and picked some plates to start, we ordered chicken wings, spicy prawns and some humus dips to share. Each one was served up in quirky dishes, the prawns were in a little black pan, sizzling hot with warm French bread laid beside it. The chicken wings came in a little picnic basket accompanied with some tasty homemade sauce. However, it was the way each dish was deliciously cooked that was entirely distracting from the thoughtful presentation. It was safe to say no food was going to waste on our table.

We proceeded to order mains, a choice made difficult by the tantalising menu. But between us we settled with a rotisserie chicken, steak and ale pie and a flat iron steak sandwich. Cooked to perfection – it has to be said, the chef knows what he’s doing. The steak and ale pie, a staple in the autumnal diet, was to die for! A definite highlight of the evening.

Following mains we decided to have some warm chocolate fudge cake and baked chocolate chip cookie dough with ice cream. I would highly recommended grabbing the chocolate fudge cake and treating yourself to a glass of red wine. The combination brings out the taste beautifully in each other.  I have to mention the intricate cocktail menu. From English Mojito to Peach and Lavender martinis, you are sure to have a fabulous night there with the cocktail menu alone. Overall The Botanist is a wonderful example of a stylish, well run and more than satisfying establishment. My friends and I felt ready to brace the chilly evening after a cosy and memorable evening in there.
