Excerpts from the interview…

Jackets are among the main contributors of the winter wear market in India. Along with changing consumer preferences and spike in population density index, growth in per capita spending of consumers has been instrumental in increasing demand of the category in recent years.

Some of the country’s finest fashion designers and artisans have been brought together to create the products at Manyavar. Each of the products is a signature product; it is a manifestation of in-depth research, creativity and design, workmanship, technology and benchmarking.

What is the location strategy of the brand – high-street or malls?

With a GDP growth rate of 7.2 percent, India has an edge over developed markets of the US and EU, which are growing at ~2 percent and ~2.5 percent each. The developing nations will drive future apparel consumption and India is one of the major consuming nations. Favourable trade policies, increased penetration of organised retail among other factors contribute in making the Indian fashion industry attractive for investors.

Sweatshirts have been enjoying superior demand in the recent years not only in the metro cities but also in the smaller town of the country.

He projected the entry of hundreds of global retailers into India in the near future which would, in turn, be an advantage to the domestic players who will always dominate local retail economy. “There will be a lot of changes in the next 10 years, much more since the advent of modern retail in the 1980s. While Indian traditional wear is here to stay, e-commerce is expected to evolve along with modern retail. Retail being the second largest employer in the country, regulations will ensure that employment in this sector is not disrupted. With the field open for global retailers, I am certain that the future holds promise for a mature economy.”

What do you think are the major influences while opting for wedding trousseau?

Over the next four months, the 9 innovators, will receive mentoring, bespoke coaching and support from Fashion for Good and its corporate partners, as well as access to a global network of partners and like-minded organisations, providing these innovators with the tools they need to grow. With the addition of the new innovators to its programme, Fashion for Good is seeking to scale these promising innovations from and for this region with a particular focus in raw materials, wastewater management, dyeing solutions, textile waste solutions, blockchain, AI and machine learning innovations. Launch partners Arvind and Welspun will provide support for these innovators in the form of local and manufacturing expertise and the possibility to partner on pilot projects to test the viability of their innovations in real-world, manufacturing processes.

As far as brand recognition is concerned, Manyavar is among the most visible menswear brands in the Indian market. It is the largest spender in the segment across 360-degree media including a mix of ATL and BTL communication. The brand also leverages on its social media platforms for marketing purpose.

The Telangana government and Shoppers Stop entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of Industries Minister K.T. Rama Rao in Mumbai.

Over the years, jackets have evolved parallel to the preferences of the modern Indian consumer. In contrast to times gone by, modern jackets are bulk-free and comfortable, with multi-utility features which make them the numero uno choice among all winter wear categories. These practical features have been successful in elevating the demand and popularity of jackets in recent years, especially among young Millennials and Gen Z’ers, now some of the largest consumer forces across the world.

The Indian apparel industry, which is the second-largest contributor in the retail industry after food and grocery, is seeing some major shifts. The entry of international brands, changes in preferences from non-branded to branded, the fast-growing economy, the large young consuming population in the country has made India a highly lucrative market. India has the world’s largest youth population, which is becoming fashion conscious owing to mass media and social media penetration. This has opened unprecedented retail market opportunities.

“Sales growth was good in many markets in the fourth quarter. In India, sales increased 33 percent in local currency, in Poland by 21 percent, in Mexico by 18 percent and in Russia by 12 percent. In Sweden, sales increased by 7 percent, while sales in the US and the UK increased by 6 and 3 percent, respectively, said H&M Chief Executive Officer Karl-Johan Persson said.

What do you think are the major influences while opting for wedding trousseau?

The brand has already launched GPS embedded jackets, BOA shoes, client t-shirts, and many more such new technologies and innovations in products are in pipeline.

“Karl-Johan and the team have done an amazing job to secure the future of the H&M group. I am fully convinced that he will do an excellent job also as Chairman of the Board. I believe strongly in Helena, who with her long and solid background within the H&M group, now takes over as CEO,” says Stefan Persson.

Monte Carlo’s 2019-2020 collection features intricate knits and has been successful in garnering tremendous response from the channel partners too. “The collection this season encompasses very intricate knits. Detailed attention was paid while designing every single article. Various kinds of jacquards and structures have been used along with various kinds of blends and fancy yarn. Meanwhile while keeping the design aesthetic high, we have really worked on our price points,” says Jain.

The minister also held talks with industry leaders from the textile sector in Mumbai. He explained to them the investment opportunities in Telangana.

In the men’s category, shirts and T-shirts are preferred more whereas in the women’s category, customers prefer kurtis and woven tops.
