So you’re walking out of Starbucks with your best friend Lisa when your phone starts frantically buzzing. You almost immediately know that something is coming. Karma knew you were having too much of a great day sipping on your double-crème caramel macchiato and gossiping about how Jenifer’s third baby is on the way, so she decided that something had to ruin it.

You’re not proud with how you responded when Brad decided that you guys should call it quits, but it’s time for your choice, Sophie. Will you mope in despair or get up and move on?

Assuming you’ve picked the latter, here are 5 movies that are perfect for binge-watching after a recent (or a not-so-recent) break-up. (We promise that they’ll definitely make you forget about Brad with his broad shoulders, as well as assure you that eating three tins of quality streets whilst curled up in bed with the cat is fine).

‘Never Let Me Go’

Okay, so as I’m sure you have assumed by the title, ‘Never Let Me Go’ is certainly a sad movie. That being said, watching just one sad movie is 100% compulsory during a break-up because when else will we eat the chcocolate fudge ice-cream we’ve been saving?

This indie flick is based on the book of the same name and centres around a love triangle between three people as they grow up together. It does, however, contain a unique twist, which really makes you love the characters more. Have the tissues at the ready.

‘The Giver’

Now that you’ve watched a soppy movie, you probably aren’t exactly feeling too great about your sitch. However, ‘The Giver’ comes next in the marathon.

The sci-fi movie centres on a boy who lives in the future in a place where there is no colour, emotions or difference. As he learns more about what earth was like in the past (for us, that’s now), he experiences things such as music, sunsets, families, war, jealousy and love all for the first time.

I’ve thrown this in the list as it will definitely make you appreciate being alive. The movie will make you reflect on your relationship, looking at the good and bad memories and helping you appreciate the relationship as an experience on the whole.

‘Paper towns’

So now you’re on your way to moving on and the next movie to watch, starring the delicious Cara Delevigne, is sure to help you on your way.

The film consists of a boy who has worshipped a girl his whole life, as he searches for her upon her sudden disappearance. The truth he is yet to realise, however, is that he doesn’t love her, in fact he barely even knows her.

The film will show you how everyone creates misconceptions of each other in our heads. He spent so much time marvelling over his crush’s adventurous and beautiful personality, when in fact he had no idea that she was just an ordinary girl. The power of the mind is deep, right?

‘To Do List’

You’ve cried, you’ve reflected on the good and bad, you’ve also taken your ex-bae off of the pedestal you put them on. Now it’s time to realise the benefits of being single and ready for a Pringle.

The ‘To Do List’ is a comedy all about a sexually inexperienced nerd who makes a ‘to do list’ on sexual acts she wants to do before going to college. Of course nothing goes to plan and she embarrasses herself in a number of hilarious ways. And no, you don’t see anything, you cheeky.

Like Sophie and Brad, if you were in a very long term relationship, now may be a good time to let your hair down, Rapunzel. I’m not saying go crazy, but you should feel so much better just knowing you can.

‘Big Miracle’

To finish this intense marathon, I insist you buckle your seatbelt to watch ‘Big Miracle’.

This inspirational movie is about three whales who are tragically trapped under ice and the heart-warming story of the people who try to save them.

‘Big Miracle’ is sure to not only make you feel good, but will also inspire you and remind you that you can accomplish anything when you set your mind to it. You go Glenn Coco.

So there we have it, your guide to getting over somebody. We hope you feel a lot better, however, if you don’t – there’s always chocolate milk.
