A Fun Lovin’ Criminals Take Over

IMG_6011 copyLast night, the Fun Lovin’ Criminals were in town for a sell out concert at Manchester Cathedral. The place was packed and the crowd were eager to see the boys play their debut album ‘Come Find Yourself’ in it’s entirety. They released the album in the summer of 1996 and this latest tour is a celebration of the 20 year anniversary.

The cathedral looked epic as the theme from the Superman movie began to blast through the sound system and the band took to the stage. When they began to play, they sounded confident, tight and lead singer Huey chatted between tracks, revealing anecdotes and tales about the recording and writing of their classic album. He referred to the audience as ‘friends’ and that was indeed what it felt like in there. As the band played each track from the album, by the fourth song the Fun Lovin’ fans were all hyped and ready for some ‘Scooby Snacks’. As the guitar riff began there were huge cheers and we all sang along to the chorus. An excellent atmosphere was created throughout the show and it felt like we were at a party with old friends, reminiscing and having a good time. As the last notes were played, the band exited to the the tune ‘I’ve had the time of my life’, an appropriate end to the show. The tour continues to Glasgow and then on to Europe.

The fans dispersed out of the Cathedral, but soon found themselves in one another’s company again as the MAD after party began, hosted at the Northern Quarter’s favourite hang out spot, Walrus. DJ VIVA Ems set the tone with her signature style before the Fun Lovin’ Criminals themselves arrived with Frank and Fast taking to the decks. Fans and regular NQ goers enjoyed a night of brilliant music and entertainment. Good luck to the trio with the remaining dates of the tour, we can’t wait until next time!
