A Journey Across The Kitchens Of The World At Giraffe

Abi White | 3rd December 2017

It was a cold and rainy November night before Giraffe in the Trafford Centre transported us to exotic destinations at their world kitchen.

Boasting an array of cuisines from the continents, the restaurant offers an experience for everyone. From the spicy chicken noodles of Asia to the smoky glazed ribs of the southern states of America, the restaurant nails the flavours from around the world.

For starters, there are many ‘sharer’ options that will leave you spoilt for choice. Loaded nachos were tempting, but we opted for the five tapas, which was reasonably priced for two people at around £25. Particular highlights of the tapas included the generous portion of Spanish chorizo sausage and the fried dumplings that were crisped to perfection.

The Tapas Starters

The refreshing ‘wavebreaker’ non-alcoholic cocktail complemented the complex flavours of the dishes presented, with notes of coconut and pineapple cleansing our palate before we proceeded onto the main course.

Not only do Giraffe have world cuisine, but they also experiment with timeless dishes. The famous Katsu curry has been transformed by the restaurant into a noodle bowl, accompanied by wok-fried vegetables and strips of crunchy breaded chicken. This modern twist on the Japanese staple from the restaurant was something that I had never seen before and would highly recommend.

We also opted for the slow cooked sticky BBQ ribs that are enough to make the mouth water at the thought. Accompanied by creamy coleslaw and skin on fries, the simple American classic was served and presented to perfection.

With two generous mains and a large starter, we barely had room for desert. However, we wouldn’t be beaten and wanted to continue our journey through the cuisines, opting for Spanish and Portuguese churros served with a chocolate orange sauce and the amazing Dulche de Leche, which was the star of the show.

The lovely people out front at Giraffe are also a credit to the restaurant and made our first experience a fantastic one. If you fancy an escape this winter, get yourself to Giraffe in the Trafford Centre to have a go at their impressive array of world cuisine.
