AC Slater talks his ‘Night Bass’ takeover at Boomtown Fair

Abi White | 23rd April 2018

After recently playing Coachella, AC Slater, recognized by his signature ‘Night Bass’ sound, combines dirty basslines of the UK Garage scenes with hints of infectious house elements and old school rave synths.
Bringing ‘Night Bass’ to Boomtown Fair this year, AC Slater will be accompanied by the finest like-minded producers to bring a new wave of bass-heavy music to Bang Hai towers.
What have you been up to at the moment?
I just got married! I also just released my new 3 track EP called “I Wanna Show You” on my own label Night Bass. I’ve played Coachella over the last 2 weekends so that’s pretty much taken over my life right now leading into it.
What shows have you got planned around UK at the moment?
Only a few at the moment, but the trip is very centered on doing the Night Bass takeover at Boomtown. Something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. Can’t wait!
How is the LA scene in comparison to the UK Scene?
LA and UK are very different for sure. As far as the music I’m into, in the UK it is way faster with the bassline sound and all of that. In the US it’s a lot slower and more influenced by the house side of things, but still heavy and high energy. The one thing they have in common is the love for the music from the crowds.
How did you get involved to the UK Scene?
Ready for a trip way back? I used to have a hardcore label that I started back in 2000. I first went to the UK to work with some producers like Devastate. Then as time went on my musical tastes changed and I kept returning to UK to work with different artists and started playing more gigs. My main influences all come directly from the UK music scenes.

What has been the most memorable experience of your career so far?
Honestly being able to even have a career doing music and travel is the most incredible feeling. But I would say playing legendary American festivals like Coachella and Lollapalooza have been the most memorable times I’ve had on stage. On top of that, I’ve made some incredible friends for life through music.
Where else are you playing this summer?
I’ll be rolling through festival season in the states, doing events like Coachella, EDC Vegas, Paradiso, Ever After and a bunch more. We’ve also got our yearly Night Bass tour called “Summer Phases” where I bring a different line up to a bunch of different cities around North America.
You’re playing Boomtown for the Night bass take over? What can we expect from it?
We’ve got an all-star line up of heavy hitters like Chris Lorenzo, Cause & Affect and Taiki Nulight to name a few, so you know it’s going to be all brand new heaters and big tunes all night. We’re all super close friends as well so we’ll definitely be bringing the good energy on stage and enjoying the night.
Any collaborations or new music to look forward to this year on Night Bass?
Check out my new EP that just came out, as well as “Outsiders Remixed Pt. 2” with remixes from my album by Jack Beats, Taiki Nulight, Phlegmatic Dogs and Kastle. Other than that we’ve got sooo much good music coming out on the label every 2 weeks so just keep an eye out. In the near future we have Shift K3Y, Taiki Nulight, Jay Robinson and Petey Clicks lined up with new EPs.
