All Bar One’s new menu is the schnitzel as VIVA tucks in

All Bar One is the afterwork pub grub go-to eatery for many. It’s for overstaying your lunch hour, meeting up with mates, putting the workplace to right and enjoying a breezy, bustling hour or five.

They have a new menu at the chrome, bottle-green hewed and wooden King Street site which also boasts a quite dodgy mural and the best mullet in town (worth a trip alone) with friendly, we’ll-get your-drink-served-in-seconds-mister, staff.

We had a lovely comfy booth as we checked out the new menu which is as eclectic as the venue. It seems to start in Mexico, goes stateside, brushes by Germany and flirts with Asia.

They have added vegan and veggie dishes to make it more inclusive and an array of new dishes that are perfect as the nights draw in.

The first thing to say is that this is great value for money. There’s no pretention to be anything other than delivering hearty portions of feel-good pub grub and it works.

Vinos, fizz and spirits are plentiful, and our server Alice was super savvy on giving advice on the best tipples which can be cheap as chips or proper champers.

You can go tapas style (three for £16) divided into meat, fish, vegetable or cheese, but we opted for one of the sharing platters which start from under a tenner.

Our Mezze board had a cheese fondue at its centre with an array of everything from tempura veggies to nachos to dip in and was a dreamy, swirl of cheesy joy, yum.

We also tried a side of meatballs, one of the new dishes, which were juicy lamby spheres with bursts of pomegranate seeds.

This platter was huge, so big it comes on two wooden boards pieces together like a giant jigsaw and for just over £15, a total bargain.

We didn’t need mains but well, it would be rude not to. These start from under £10 and come with plenty of sides. Again, the choice is a quick hop around global cuisine, so I opted for the chicken schnitzel, because I just fancied it.

This was good, moist chicken in the crunchy crumb you want. Sam Travel Man was shredding or whatever so stuck to steak which here is ribeye and you can surf with it added prawns, which he did (as well as rosemary chips, not very keto). Again, plentiful and good for under £17.

We couldn’t eat anything else, but the puddings looked great if you have a sweet tooth and start from under £4.

VIVA verdict: All Bar One’s new menu is unpretentious perfect pub grub served with love in a vibey vibrant atmos and its portions are fantastic value for money.
