Bake a Christmas Boob to help Prevent Breast Cancer for future generations

Debbie Manley | 11th December 2017

Bake a Christmas Boob and help a Manchester-based charity fund ground-baking research to predict and prevent breast cancer.

Prevent Breast Cancer, based at the Nightingale Centre in Wythenshawe,  is supported by Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor, who plays councillor Sally Metcalfe.

Sally was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009 and has helped to judge previous boob bakes.

The charity helped fund research into the Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) test, which will initially be available for patients having tests at St Mary’s Hospital and Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester for BRCA1 and 2 gene mutations, with a family history of breast cancer.

BRCA has been called the “Angelina Jolie gene” after the actress revealed she’d had a double mastectomy because she had discovered she could have an up to 87% chance of developing breast cancer.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. Every year, 55,000 women and men are diagnosed in the UK – 150 people a day. Survival rates have increased but every year 11,400 are lost to this disease.

You can bake a festive boob this week and sell it on on Friday 15 December – at work, in your local community or on a stall at a Christmas market.

Share with Prevent Breast Cancer by posting on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter using #bakeachristmasboob tagging in Prevent Breast Cancer. They will pick the TOP THREE and prizes will be awarded.
