Are we becoming a nation obsessed with lip fillers?

Jessica Ward | 26th November 2018

The trout pout trend has been on the up in recent years. Google searches for lip fillers in the UK are 10 times higher than the figure from 2012 and lip augmentation proved the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment of 2016, according to whatclinic.com.

There is of course the influence of Kylie Jenner, which is undeniable amongst the younger generation. Kylie managed to build an empire around her lips, even making the Forbes celebrity 100 list and being the youngest person ever to do so.

What is in lip fillers?

The main ingredient in lip filler is actually a sugar gel. The filler itself is a natural product that attracts water which help plump out the chosen area where the filler is injected. This gel dissolves naturally over time.

We caught up with one of Cheshire’s leading experts Doctor Andre Brittain-Dissont, who happens to specialise in anti-wrinkle injections and fillers, to find out what his thoughts were on the increasing trend.

Doctor Andre has been in the medical profession for the past 25 years. In this time, he has worked as a GP, Premiership Sports Physician and is fully trained in medical aesthetics. In other words – he knows his stuff.

Doctor Andre is a firm believer that both Botox and fillers have the power to enhance a woman’s natural beauty, if administered correctly. He talks a lot about the classic beauty. Small amounts of filler in the lips can give a plump and natural look, without going overboard. Doctor Andre recommends cialis online kaufen with a classic lip ratio of 1:1.6

“Trends come and go, whereas, the classic look is timeless.” Doctor Andre confirms.

The main objective of the trend is to enhance a certain facial feature, in this case the lips. Whereas the classic look focuses on the facial symmetry and spacing. This timeless look dates all the way back to the ancient Greeks and can be seen in the many ornate statues throughout history.

There is also a growing concern over the increasing dangers of how widely available lip fillers are becoming. With no laws in the UK which regulate the people who carry out non-surgical cosmetic procedures, we are beginning to see more and more botched jobs.

As an added danger, trends tend to overexaggerate the chosen feature. Meaning that generally, more filler is applied than what is necessary, causing damaging long-term effects such as saggy skin.

So, to cut a long story short, if you are considering getting your lips filled, by all means do it! Just please make sure you visit a trained medical professional such as Doctor Andre. Most importantly, take their advice on board. These guys are trained professionals and ultimately, they will advise on what they believe is best for you.
