“The best record store for vinyl and new music” opens in Hull

A record store that exclusively sells new music and merchandise for unsigned bands, has opened in Hull.

CDs, t-shirts, scarves… Type Slowly caters for all your new music needs.

Type Slowly has set-up shop inside the Warren Centre, Queens Gardens, and is a joint venture between the centre’s record label, Warren Records, and ‘zine shop manager Mike Barnes.

The shelves are already filling up with 100s of independent records, t-shirts and CDs from artists like LIFE, Fonda 500, Fronteers and the Three Minute Heroes project.

Mike said: “We want it to be a hub for local musicians and artists.

It’s been fantastic! We’ve had a few people play – and the shop’s been packed.

By the people, for the people. The shop is a musical community hub.

We want it to be the place in England where people come for small press and independent records.”

The record store opens amid a resurgence in vinyl sales: 4.1million records were sold in the UK last year, the highest since 1991.

Vinyl sales were also up 15% on the annual International Record Store Day on 21st April, with 60,000 albums sold, many of them released exclusively on the day.

Type Slowly has also been part funded by the Joe Strummer Foundation, a project that supports empowerment through music.
