Boom! The Countdown To The UK’s Unique Festival Starts Now

This August thousands of revellers will descend on Winchester for what is becoming one of Britain’s biggest festival. Boomtown Fair has developed a massive following in recent years as well as a reputation for being one of the most diverse and entertaining options available to festival goers. The appeal stems from just how different Boomtown is to other festivals, from the overarching narrative built upon previous years to the novelty of physically creating this mad, eccentric city.

The town is split up into districts each with their own stages and dedicated campsites with the town centre acting as hub for the festival showcasing some of the best and most interesting artists in the line-up like Parov Stelar, Leftfield and the Asain dub Foundation.

Visitors are encouraged to forge communities within the districts and with each other during the weekend in order to create multiple distinct identities. As well as the different districts, each year Boomtown has a theme that influences the shows and aesthetic of the festival.

Following on from the last chapter, this year is ‘Chapter Eight: The Revolution’ and promises to be more extravagant than ever, with a record 60,000 people from countries around the world ready to explore all the town has to offer.

The line-up is as eclectic as its setting with over 100 stages and 500 acts including headliners like Damien ‘Jr Gong’ Marley, Madness, Fun lovin’ Criminals and Fat Freddy’s drop.

The acts cover almost every genre imaginable, everything from reggae, ska, punk, disco and grime, it’s the type of place you go to discover a new favourite band or an act you’ve never heard of before. Boomtown isn’t just a place for live music, it’s a community created to celebrate all things artistic and different.

There are plenty of other attractions in addition to the musical acts, over 80 unique street venues are littered throughout the districts and vary from cake shops, emporiums and boutiques to circus acts and elaborate street performances.

There’s a real sense that you could spend hours wandering through the makeshift streets and never run out of new attractions to explore and interact with. With such a diverse offering of music, entertainment and outright insanity Boomtown has become one of the most exciting options in the festival scene.
